even if they bought adobe it would be a disaster: goodbye photoshop and dreamweaver and everything else on the windows platform... just like they did with shake and logic.

I don't see how it would be a good idea based on publically available information about Sony right now. Many of their product lines are similar and occupy a high end niche that Apple is vastly better at filling these days than Sony, funnily enough. MPB and iPod are ubiquitous with iPod having wholesale replaced Walkman as the portable media player of the masses.

Theres the television range, and the music/film line of work but why would you spend 50 billion to buy out an international mega conglomerate just so you can can make records? Judging by the whole copyright issue this is not an industry which has prospects for growth.

Nah, if Apple wants to get bigger it needs to go the way of Google and get into the information business. I can see them trying to make out with Yahoo before they try to eat Sony.

I don't see it, but stranger things have happened.
Regardless, it wouldn't be a good thing.

I don't see them even wanting Adobe, that is too personal at this point. Jobs would rather work to run Adobe down rather than just buy them.

This seems like the worse possible acquisition for Apple. Sony is one of its largest rivals in the high-end laptop market, portable music players, media centric television, and even in phones Sony is there. It seems like almost every regulatory agency would be up in arms at allowing the Apple juggernaut getter even larger, nearing monopoly in some areas. Rumor has it that Microsoft is after Adobe (has been for some time) so Apple wouldn't want to waste their money in a bidding war. Smart acquisitions would be new expansions, not consolidation on its existing market (too much regulation if it gets too large). I'm thinking web services, especially search and or cloud products (Amazon might be a good acquisition).

An Apple acquisition of Sony wouldn't make economical sense. If Apple wants to buy a PIECE of Sony, then that might make sense, but it's still far fetched. The only part I can see Apple genuinely having interest in is the TV business, and that's Sony's cash-cow. Sony's recent Google-TV equipped model, I admit, does take some design cues from past Apple designs though. Their Google-TV looks like a giant white iPhone 3Gs, with the "bath-tub" rear design, and the slab of glass up front, with rounded edges. Pictured...

I'm not getting where Adobe came into the picture though?

Adobe came into the picture long ago, photoshop and flash and graphic design was one of the mac's big things. Even though you can do it on windows, a lot of creative types preferred the mac. Lately steve jobs has been dissing adobe over flash, saying html5 makes flash obsolete, etc. Maybe he was just doing that to devalue their stock and aquire them at a cheaper price. Can you imagine a world where you have to go buy a mac just to use photoshop? He did it with logic and shake, he can do it again, 3rd time is a charm.

Ok, but the original article was about Apple and Sony. Not Adobe.

Apple will NOT buy out Adobe. Ever. Promise. It goes against every rule of logic. Apple isn't at all focused on cross-platform media creation tools, and that's Adobe's No.1 software strategy. Plus, Adobe is far too ingrained into everything on the web to even consider a buyout. At this point Adobe has reached it's stagnation point. It's not really growing, just improving. Adobe only has to keep it's market share from now on.
