My dads sony like 2 years old now has the worst speakers ever, you can barely hear them at full volume unlike my current HP.

I wanted to know do the new laptops have good sound - comparable to HP perhaps?

Depends on the model, but the full size ones are at least average.

Pretty tinny though not quite as bad the ones on notebooks released two years ago.

The S is below average (this coming from my experience having owned late top model Satellite 5100 series which has harman kardon) so it may not be fair comparison. But I would use my earphone most of the time .
