    Hi,

    I recently bought Sony Vaio E1513CYNB on a deal on ebay. It's came with linux stock os something like Red flag. I have installed windows 8 pro 64 bit version on it now. But when I click on the camera icon, it says please connect a camera which wasn't there before I installed windows 8. I took some picture on it when It was running on linux.

    Have anybody faced such an issue? Do I need to install any drivers? I didn't see any particular drivers associated with camera on sony website. Could you please help me guys?

    I would much appreciate any help :)

    First thing first is going to device manager and see any yellow exclamation.

    Thanks!

    Could you please tell me under which tab on the left that I should be looking for that yellow exclamation in Device manager?

    You should see Imaging Devices. By default, camera should be installed default Windows 8 driver.

    Just look for anything in device manager with an exclamation mark. If the driver isn't installed it could be anywhere in the list, listed as something vague, e.g. 'unknown device'.

    Hi,

    Thanks again! But there isn't Imaging devices menu in there, but it's available with my dell laptop. Why isn't available in my Sony vaio? Also you mentioned that it gets installed with windows 8 by default, but in my case it didn't. What should I do now?

    Best,

    @anytimer
    Thanks for your help!

    There is this 'unknown device' with option such as update, disable, uninstall. Should I click on the update? Will that go to the online page automatically and download the required drivers?

    Thanks!

    While installing Windows 8, did you install the chipset drivers that you downloaded from the Sony website?

    Can you take a snapshot of device manager and post it here? It would help us to know more about your issue.

    A friend of mine faced this same issue when she tried to install Windows 7 on a Samsung netbook that originally had a Linux based OS. I tried helping her via email but after several unsuccessful attempts she returned it and got something else. Are cameras meant for Linux wired differently somehow? Maybe a DIP switch/ jumper/ solder bridge needs to be changed?
