I am looking at buy a sony vaio VGN-FW160E/H. When I looked at the laptop at best buy the screen looked very bright and washed out. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if this is how all the laptops are or if the color is comparable to other laptops in its price range. Also if anyone else has opinions about anything on this laptop feel free to let me know.

The FW160E/H has an ECO screen which means it's a single lamp display. To me it looked like an average laptop screen, similar to many HP, Asus and Acer models.

The Hicolor screen available on other FW models has double lamps and has better colors.

I don't know that screen, but the Asus X56SN has a similar screen to the Sony ECO CCFL screens. Not very bright and average contrast.

Well in DPI it will be comparable, but I don't know how bright and how good the contrast is on your Asus screen.

Basically I just want to know if this laptop is going to have a noticeable difference in color and brightness from the average laptop that you would find for sale at circuit city, best buy. The display model I saw looked awful and it was by far the worse screen at the store.

You've probably just seen a bad sample. The FW ECO screen is an average screen.
