Hi, My Vaio Z's screen broke.

Looking on Ebay they are around $400

Does anyone know if there is another screen, or somewhere that i can get this screen for less?

It just doesnt seem worth it to spend $400 on an older laptop's screen considering i also need to replace the fan sometime soon.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    thanks.

remove the broken screen, check the part number and order new screen on eBay.

    should be around $200 delivered.

what I found out is that if you search by laptop model number, the prices are generally higher than if you search by screen P/N.

do you have any idea how to find the part number?

I have the 1600x900 screen, and have searched around good with no luck

any site that i can find selling it, has no part number, same with ebay.

i posted on the s13 display mod where you originally asked the question. should help you out some.

The part number is found on the back of the display. you need to dissemble it to find it if you can't find it online.

    thanks

    somehow i missed that :p

you wouldnt know by any chance where on the back of the screen the number would be?
like, say is it near a corner so i can just bend back the plastic and take a look?

or would i have to take the whole thing out.

No shortcuts. Do it properly. Read the disassembly guide for your model and follow it carefully. Place the screws on printouts of photos or scans of the laptop bottom, etc. so you don't mix up the short and long ones. Fix them on the printout if you plan to leave them there, or if you have small kids running around.

My VAIO has a carbon fibre lid - no over-bending!!! Have you seen a F1 car crash on TV? That's what happens to carbon fibre when you overstress it.

Seems like the price difference between the 1080p and the 900p screens is not that much. Note, however that the 1080p screen has much smaller text.

I saw a few screens for about $230 + shipping.

    1080p:
    B131HW02
    LT131EE11000

    900p
    B131RW02
    LT131EE12000

As far as I know the Toshiba and AUO model might actually be the same screen.

It may add a few more steps when upgrading resolution such as guessing the proper setting for a couple switches on the main board. My understanding is that the lvds cable is the same for a 900p amd a 1080p displayso your good there.

There aren't any switches to change on the VPCZ1 as far as I know. Or at least not any I recall when I previously upgraded my VPCZ116GG from 900p to 1080p.

^ What did you do with the 900p screen? Just asking because I need one. :) Broke mine by tapping on the screen too hard. :(

Seems that on ebay the 1080p screen is actually cheaper than the 900p by about 25%. Go figure.
