    Hi Everyone!

I have a Sony Vaio VPCEB36FG and it has 500gb hdd which is slow.

I plan to change it with a 120 GB intel 320 series HDD.

Here is what I was thinking

I can live with a fresh install of OS. I feel I don't really need to clone all the applications installed and and files other than system files ( I have a external 1TB hdd and I will be backing everything I want to keep in that hdd ), so you can say that the 500gb currently in the system is all free!!

So my target is now, having a fresh install of the Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit, which came with the laptop, along with the hidden recovery partition on the SSD, so in case I run intro any trouble anytime, I can use the Sony's hidden recovery partition to get back up.

So, how should I go about achieving it? From what I could understand reading similar threads is that cloning of that partition to the SSD through a cloning tool wont work, since its a different kind of partition, and even if it somehow is cloned on the SSD, the F10 Sony recovery won't work, cause it needs the recovery files in the partition to start from the same exact cylinder number that it was on, otherwise it won't work n all....

Also, since I own a Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate MSDN key, would it be a better option, if I just forget about the recovery partition and all this, install the win 7 professional on the ssd and then get all the drivers and few of the vaio soft wares I might need?

Would appreciate any kind of help and suggestions.

    Thanks!
    Jack

Instead of using the partition on the HDD, why not just make some recovery disks and use those instead?

If you don't want to create and use those CDs, then just install a fresh Windows 7 on your SSD using your aforementioned key. Then get all the drivers from Sony eSupport - Electronics - Select Your Model (select your proper model) and you are good to go!
