Hi i have a sony vaio vgn-fs315E. I brought it as spares or repairs. i got a xp home disk to install a new operating system.

When i put the disk in and start up the comp everything goes fine untill it says "press any key to install from disk" or whatever it says. So i press any key but nothing happens. I tried like every key on the keyboard but it just dont want to register that i have pressed a key.

Do you think this is a keyboard problem or something more serious?

    thanks for your advise. :)

It could be either... or both. It could be an issue of a bad keyboard which is a relatively cheap and easy fix (by you even); or it could be a problem with the motherboard, which is expensive and possibly impossible to fix. If you plug in an external keyboard are you able to get it to work?

I think your priority would be to get the OS running to see if that would shed some light on your situation. Keyboards are cheap, you can find them for $5 if you look a bit. I would try to get XP running first.

if possible, take the hdd out of the vaio and wipe it on another pc ( with a usb to sata convertor, then you won't have the press any key message and it will boot straight from the cd.

    good luck
