I was surfing the net and then my sony vaio laptop crashed. I went to turn it on and the vaio start up sign came on then when windows went to load it looked lkke it couldnt. A page came up with windows error recovery. Saying it failed to start. You choose either launch startup repair or start windows normally. After pishing either or it comes up with a blue screen stating a problem detected with machine_check_exception. I cannot get to tje set up screen and have no idea qhat to do please help.

What's the exact error you get when you start startup repair?

So I have been trying to figure this problem out by surfing the net but it just doesn't seem to be working.

I pushed the vaio button and now every time I turn it on it stays on the vaio logo with background and doesn't even attempt to boot up. I hear the laptop fans still making noise but no action on the screen. Arrrrghhhhh this is doing my head in!!!!!!

Unless you screwed up the bios/motherboard, something must happen. Are you saying its not gving you any error like "OS not found" ?? (which can be corrected with a bios update byt he way).

do you have bad noise or many outages in power, with the battery not charged up high enough? (I am speculating that the power surges may have spoilt something in the motherboard, because of which the BIOS initialization is failing and it hangs).

lastly - did you ever try to burn a newer or modified BIOS? how did it go?

do you have recovery cd/dvds made? if so boot with that and see if the system boots up with those or no.

lastly - create a linux rescue live cd on another computer and then boot up with that - if this also fails, then you're royally screwed.

(there is a hack to re-write a bad BIOS. check the main thread for details)
