Ive just got a new Sony AW Laptop so im wanting to get my sony vaio vgn-a115b repaired and sold as the right hinge is broken.

Ive checked google, ebay etc and cannot find any hinges, anyone have any ideas ?

Would any A Series hinge work ?

    Anyone know ?

    Cheers :)

    Really? Sure? ;)

I have an old A217M (17 inch) myself with a broken right hinge, proving difficult finding the larger 17inch hinge for that one.

My apologies. A bit of googling shows that there was a 17 inch widescreen version, a 15.4 inch widescreen version but also your 15 inch 4:3 (business) version. I wasn't aware of that particular version, and it appears to have been quite uncommon.

It's quite possible that the 15 inch and 15.4 inch models share the same hinge. The 17 inch hinge is a little different because of the extra weight. I suppose it might be worth the risk for the price?

EDIT: Found this on ebay, it seems to suggest that the 15.4 inch hinge will also fit the 15 inch 4:3 model. VGN-A130, mentioned in the link, is the original model number for the 4:3 business version (same as yours)

Well I have bid on that link you left in your first post ? Its worth a shot, either way its cheap so cant hurt.

I guess it is quite likely its the same hinge. They seem to be quite hard to come by and it seems to be a huge probem with Vaio laptops, I just got a AW Series, hope it doesnt happen to that one!

The AW has a better reputation for hinge build, but the A series was a disaster. I've just myself ordered replacement hinges for the A217M that my brother still uses quite often. It'll be the third time the hinges have been changed on that one! Just need to find a teardown guide now so I don't damage anything taking it apart...
