Hey everybody
I am currently looking for a new laptop and the new sony vaio z series appears to be almost exactly what i am looking for. However i personaly didn't like the storage system sony used for this laptop.
It's not about the fact that i don't want solid state drives but rather how sony implemented them. First of all i have absolutely no use for solid state drives in raid 0.
The real value SSDs offer over HDDs are the extremely low acces times, 0 sound production, higher physical tolerances (falling damage etc) and lower power consumption. I personaly don't get any advantages from a raid 0 array.
Also, as everybody knows SSDs in raid still do not support garbage collection.
However i found a model that has a conventional HDD instead of a SSD listed as VPCZ11V5E .
I am aware that some older vaio Z laptops use HDDs instead of SSDs but this model seems to have all the specs of the latest vaio Z model except for the SSDs.
My question is wether or not i could remove the HDD in this model and replace it with a standard solid state drive (an intel g2 drive for example). And would this enable the TRIM command without any issues?
I tried looking for more info but it appears that there is very little on this model (VPCZ11V5E). I only see it listed on several european sites.
I myself found it on the dutch Sonystyle site here: https://www.sonystyle.nl/SonyStyle/VAIO-notebooks/Z-Serie-13-1
(click on "configureren" on the left model, sorry about not being able to provide a direct link or an english one)
I would greatly appreciate it if anybody could shed some light on all this.

from what i know you should be able to stick in your own SSD in there. good luck!

I say go SSD and emjoy the super fast speed and skip the hassle of having to get the HDD and putting other stuff in. Make things easy
