    Hello,

my vgn a117s (3.5 years old) worked without any failure until last week.
Since last week it runs only 30-40 min and then it goes in a zombie state.
The screen turns black, keyboard LEDs blink. It is impossible to turn the laptop
off. Only when I remove the battery and remove the power supply it turns off.
But it will only start again after waiting for ~15 minutes.
I think it is a thermal problem but cpu fan spins and cpu temp is max ~55 celsius .
Does the gpu (ati 9700) has its own van? I tried to open the notebook but I can not remove the touchpad cable (Is this white thing a clip or is the cable only clamped?)

    Any hints?
    Thanks in advance.

55C is livable with the Pentium Ms.

I would think that the mobo is going bad. Have you dropped it?

It could be something loose, or the Mobo going bad. Do something for me. Flash it with your latest bios and see if that fixes anything

It already runs the newest bios, and why should the bios brake from one day to the other without any change? Today I will replace the memory modules for a last test. But I think you are right and it is the motherboard :-(.
