Hi, guys!
I have 128 gb SSD x 2 in raid 0 (stripe) configuration. Yesterday touchpad on Sony vpc-Z21 became unresponsive and mouse has disappeared. I forced restart with power button. The boot sequence stopped with Intel Rapid Storage error message:
Raid 0 (Stripe) /Strip 128gb/ Size 236gb. Status Failed/Bootable- No.
Physical devices:
Part
0 Size 0.0 Gb Non-raid disc.
1 Samsung model #...Serial.. Size 119.2 Gb Member disc (0)
Enter config utillity.../Operating system not found
I can see that one disc in the raid has failed. Not sure if failure is mechanical or it's Intel driver issue. Both drives show in green color though.
Any way to boot into this failed raid config? Any benefit of using Intel raid utility to tell it that both drives should be part of this raid?
If data is gone since it's a striped volume, what the best way to reinstall the windows 7? Thanks!
EDIT: Resolved, thanks to Qwaarjet!

did you have the PMD plugged in when you forced it to power down? tried disconnecting everything, remove the battery, then try booting again?

I had a similar incident where I was had to force it to power down, I had the PMD plugged in and on reboot I had a the same problem happen to me. I was about to break the RAID and wipe the drive, but I went into BIOS and it told me both drives were being registered, so it didn't make any sense as to why RAID would have failed. I don't know exactly the steps I took, but I got it to work again and haven't had problem sense (over 3 months ago). Others on the forum also have had similar issues. Something to do with the way you powered down while the PMD was plugged in. Try booting with it and without it, remove the battery again and press the power button before putting back in.
If nothing works, go into Intel RAID manager, delete/reset the RAID array, if both drives show up as green, it should allow you to create a R0 array again and do it and reboot. If you're lucky you should be able to boot up like normal without having to restore your image or anything. -
Thanks a million! Worked on 3rd try with battery out and PMD connected

awesome! glad you didn't give up despite my vague and random sounding advice. I was like everyone else when this happened, in complete panic mode and did a million things at once and wasn't sure what combination had fixed it
don't worry, it's only happened to me once, there is just some strange random glitch about a forced shut off with the PMD that screws everything up. I abused my drives after it happened to see if there really some defect so that I could exchange but they never failed. I don't believe it was the drives, just some gremlin in the light peak connection with the PMD. Either way, I'm glad you're up and running again! -
