Looking for one which has a Geforce 9700GT any recommnedations?, has to be 15-16".
Cheers
-
But Sony does not make a 15" with 9700GT, not even 9600.
Closest to your GPU wishes is the AW series but that's 18.4". -
Because Sony makes solid laptops, unlike other companies such as Dell for example.
And like others have said around, your best bet is the AW or the FW with the ATI HD 3650 card -
Yup, those are pretty close. The 9700GT is just yet another 8600GT variant after all.
I too wish they offered something better (hello 9800GTX!
)
-
Believe me, I wish they made a true "gaming" laptop- I'd be typing this to you on that!
-
Sony could make a laptop that's built like a tank, but it wouldn't matter if the OS is by default cluttered up to hell.
-
Thats why you spend 5 minutes and clean it up.
-
Exactly, it doesn't take a genius to do it. You don't even have to use the "trickier" procedures found on this forum. Just go into Control Panel and uninstall the unnecessary bloatware. That's what I did and now the laptop runs smoothly.
The bloatware issue is fixable. Good luck fixing hardware and build quality problems. -
Yes with a clean install.
Uninstalling programs is not definitive for removing bloatware, as many remnants are left.
I don't know what models of Dell's you reference having issues with, but in my experience they're a fine laptop. Also don't mistake my response to your claim of issues with Dell laptops as my attempt to start a Sony-v-Dell debate. I was originally stating that almost ANY laptop would be better than a Sony. -
Use a free registry cleaner..
-
Why are we arguing bloatware in a GPU thread? lol
Many companies load bloatware onto their products, it's not like Sony is the only one which does this >.>
To the OP, the closest you'll find to a higher end gaming card in a 15" is the HD3650 is the Vaio FW, which more or less an equivalent to Nvidia's 8600M GT-9600M GT. -
Good point! I'm out.
-
I don't really care about bloatware if it makes systems cheaper. What I want is a clean OS CD and CDs for any programs I'd actually want (ie media creator CDs, Blu Ray/DVD playback programs, etc.)
I like starting from scratch either way anyway. -
Because Mr. 72hundred over there was ranting on about how nobody should buy a Sony laptop and that's just asking for it, especially from a Dell user on a Sony board.
-
Unless you're Superman, I doubt it. Takes me a good couple of hours to make sure I've got rid of everything. I wish 'Fresh Start' was a default on EVERY machine, and they booted up with an option to install various pieces of Sony mostlycrapware, telling you what each thing does - or archive them to DVD.
I wouldn't debate that. I use many Dells. It's just that Sony's are built better, especially if you're the type to take Dells to near the pricing levels of the flagship Sony's, and especially if you compare similar models of upper-end Sony's to Dell machines which fit in the same niche.
Back on topic, I'd really like to see an upper-midrange GPU in a mainstream Sony. The ATI on the FW is a little below what I'd like to see on a ~17", 3Kg machine which is why I haven't been very tempted. -
I'd just like a clean OS CD and then CDs with the programs they include that you actually want (like Blu Ray or media creation software) :-/ Dell actually gives you that...I guess Gateway and Asus too
How expensive is a DVD anyway? I don't get it :-/ -
Sony with decent GPU? PS3, of course.
Seriously, they make way more than a single laptop and accessories by selling you an HDTV, PS3, all of their accessories, and tons of games... -
Hee hee. Well, technically the AW's GPU is probably about on par with the Playstation 3's GPU. Worse in some ways, but probably better overall (except that the PS3 is a single hardware target, so games can be specifically tuned for it, so effectively it's better in a way).
Sony with decent GPU?
