Has anyone used a sony xbrite screen in brite sunlight? If so is it easy to view the screen? I'm a golf instuctor and i'm looking to purchase a laptop that has an outside viewable screen. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

yeah, but just to be clear, the XBrite is not marketed as something that makes the screen viewable in the sun. there's certain rugged notebooks marketed with this quality and designed for outdoor use but they're expensive and major manufacturers don't sell such things. Go to www.ruggednotebooks.com to see notebooks with sunlight readable displays.

Fujitsu markets theirs that way...I think Sony just doesn't think people want to take over priced notebooks outside. [} :)]

I've used a similar display in the sun. It works reasonably well. You won't want to watch DVDs on it, but checking email, etc. is fine. With a standard LCD you can't see much of anything in the sun.

I used my S series in the car yesterday. On full brightness it lets you see high contrast text, i.e. black on white. But it's not ideal.

It performs better when the sun isn't directly on the screen, facing away for example.

Still not an ideal solution I'm afraid.

But better than a non-enhanced display.
