Impact Protection : G-Sensor™ Shock Protection - Hard Disk Drive Protection

Is the Hard Disk Drive Protection hardware or software?
If it is hardware, is it integrated in HDD or seperated from HDD?
if I replace hdd, how can i keep it?

    Thanks

... but it needs a driver to work, as far as I'm aware. Make sure you install the correct driver/utility if you do a clean install. In Vista, you can see the sensor operating by checking somewhere in the Vaio settings. In XP, there's no such utility although a driver is provided so I assume it's OK.

There is an accelerometer on the mainboard that is used for movement detection. It is independent from the hard drive.

The software bit is just an API call to this chip. You need three packages to make it go:
    1. Sony Notebook Utilities
    2. Sony Firmware Extension Parser
    3. Sony HDD Protection Driver

Now, somebody really needs to get Smackbook functionality working on it. Theoretically, it is possible and very cool.

I've been looking for this driver. I don't see it on the site. Do you have a link by chance?
