The concept ultrabook we saw during CES 2012 will be the new T series.

Oh if that's the S serie, I wonder what is next Z series...
It's looking much better than the current S at least but not as good as the Z2, I don't like that big trackpad because it make the laptop wider than the Z.
The bezel is wider on top and bottom. -
When this will be the SA/SB successor... It looks to me like the SA/SB with monor cosmetical changes without an ODD!
-
Needs less bezel.
-
You want Sony to embezzle the bezel?
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
so this means that the S series just lost the power that it had?
-
It would be surprising if they would replace the SA/SB series so soon. Or will this be a complementary model in the S series along with the SA/SB (at least for some time)?
-
So depending on the the chip in this, it will be either out in Mayish or after june since the 17W becomes available on June 3rd.
Revised Ivy Bridge launch schedule confirmed -
Any news on the new Z?
-
Apparently it will be the same-old Z2 with an IB. No word yet on the improvement in battery life.

Is the assumption that the mfrs have had chips to do designing with for a while and once Intel starts shipping in quantity the IB units will start shipping in a matter of weeks? Even so, I would think the June 3 releases won't be in notebooks you can buy until late June, early July. Think? -

Just curious, but where did you hear/read this? -

A notable difference. Sony can stuff one of the new 35W IVB Quads into the same Z2 chassis for those that want to pay the premium for the higher performance. -
The new Ultrabook VAIO T series, brushed metal case
New S series is as thin as the current Z2 series
-
That is what I meant, the not 17W that come out in late april could start shipping after that date so may or even june, the 17W units which become available in june, could indicate a much later date, so july or even august. knowing sony could even be september.
-
I wonder if the speakers are still as bad as a 1997 ThinkPad? And I hope they are not using the same awful screens that ruined the SA series...
-
I've heard that rumor. If true, that would definitely be cause for an upgrade even though it would mean forgoing much of the extra battery life. A full-voltage, 2.6 lb quad-core with FHD with be cool.
If they're actually going to come out with an IB quad-core option then they may as well offer 16GB RAM as another, doubtlessly high-priced, option. -
Odd that they squeezed, and I mean squeezed, the VGA monitor out port on this thing. But that was already known.
So Sony is going to call this the S series? No SZ or SU or double letter naming convention? I find it frustrating when a company revamps a product line and then gives it the same name as an old one. No way to delineate the difference in speech or writing without using "new" or "old". [Cough Apple]
Anyway, thanks for the pics and any other advanced information
-
Somehow I think you would be disappointed on both fronts. If the IB Z25 is as beaups described, there is not a whole lot to distinguish any Z2 from the new S, other than the terrible screen that the S has.
-
therefore I doubt the FHD screen will be on the new S, maybe the 1600x900 but probably not from the Z, but the one from the current SA, which would be a shame.
as for the VGA port, I guess it is needed still for projectors and most offices use it. SU would be a good name, would the ultrabook version of the S.
I am guessing once this goes on sale, the original S will still be on sale as well? or is it being axed? -
The ultrabook and S series are two different things. The ultrabook is NOT called S series. Ultrabook is T series, duh.
-
I guess the question is: is it a S or T in the picture?
I am still betting neither is getting Z-quality display nor decent speaker, though.
-
Nope. That's what the Z is 4.
-
Any idea if the new ultrabook will ship in black as well?
-
Interesting. If this is the new S or T, which looks very similar to the current Z2, and there's word in another thread that the next Z2 may not change from its current design, then what's the purpose of having these two models look identical? The Z2 will have to change, don't you think?
If Apple can integrate really good speakers into their MBA, Sony can too. But, the big question is, Why don't they? Personally, the speakers integrated into MBA's are excellent without the use of earbuds. I'd like to see Sony improve their speakers for the kind of cash you have to pay for these high-end models. -
^
Perhaps this S will not have the external GPU/drive setup like the Z2? -
I think so too
-
I think that is a given.
-
Bingo. So much wasted space.
-
Nope.

I don't see the point in this, you either get a Z or a S. This new one just seems a *bad* compromise of the two.
-
Q Full HD!
This is Q series. Sony's first ultrabook.
P.S. To much seriousness may kill you on April 1st
.
-
Can't believe they actually found the port replicator of the first ever VAIO laptop to play a cameo as VGP-PRQ1.
-
The product page for the Q is up too!
World?s Smallest Ultrabook?: The VAIO® Q | Sony USA -
I tried one at the local computer shoppe but the keyboard travel is even less than the Z's.
-
I'm disappointed. I haven't seen anything worthwhile come out of Sony (vaio) for a while. This looks like just another ultrabook. Shouldn't this be their specialty?
-
Any more news? When this will be announced?
Nothing is showing up on the fcc, the last vaio was the sony chromebook. -
Bump, any updates or release info?
-
The launch of the new T series (ultrabook) is getting really close now, likely late April or early May. Two sizes: 11" and 13", silver only. matching pouch will be available as well, grey in colour.
-
But will this be with ivy bridge?
-
unlikely to be ivy bridge equipped.
-
ah crud, looks like I'm going to have to wait then for a new laptop.
-
It's Ivy Bridge.
-
Maybe there is still hope then.
-
Late May, early June if I/B is on board... Yet the announcement will follow earlier... Quite likely I'd say.

Cool beans! We've now got a second insider, who can leak little crumbs of news we so crave!
Oh well, the (new) oracle has spoken; no IB. I guess Beaups knows too.
What? Say what? You two are not on the same team? @eddieaus: weren't you the one flashing early pictures of models in another thread? If you don't really have inside scoop, but have a decent rumor mill, that's fine, but you should qualify your prognostications accordingly.
-
I think Eddie gets pretty pictures, I get working samples

Sony unveils its first Ultrabook, the VAIO T13 / T11 -- Engadget
not sure how I feel about it, it is like a Z except no full HD and the i3 cpu, not sure I am a fan of the screen resolution. -
Definitely looking much better than Macbook Air, Zenbook or the Portege Z830
If I do not own the Z2 I will buy the 13 inch model. Maybe I grab the 11 inch model when the specs are good! -
1.6Kg?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?
??!
Is it going to be like $500?
T's are dead to me anyway after the Fallapartmatic TT. As may soon be Z's for that matter, but we'll see. But a FAIL on this one I think - it needed to weigh the same as the Z2 or less to be anywhere near competitive. And the T11 needed to be well <1Kg - I'm guessing at this rate it's going to come in at Macbook Air 13" weight.
