I'm having a strange problem on the Nvidia 7400 side. After installing all of the Vista drivers when I try to adjust the display brightness with the function / brightness key the brightness utility comes up on its lowest setting and won't move up. Also even though it shows it's on the lowest brightness setting the display is actually at its brightest. Any ideas what's wrong? When I'm on the integrated video side it works fine.

    Still missing drivers for:

The built in card reader thingy (TX models)

The quick buttons (TX model) - I saw AV Mode buttons but those don't seem to do anything

Hard Drive protection thingy (TX model)

TPM coprocessor driver thingy (TX model) - for the fingerprint scanner. Installing protector suite 5.6 didnt install the TPM driver, so still need that its quite important

Fn keys still arn't working even after installing the new vista drivers for the sony library and all that stuff

on a side note , bluetoof was automaticaly detected and installed durring the vista install (whew) I remember that being such a pain to install on a clean install of XP before

Dont try software for the fingerprint sensor from Toshiba. Didnt work on Sony. Use from ASUS, TESTED, WORKING
But im not happy to pay too much money to Sony for Vaio and to use drivers from everywhere but not from Sony. The Sony supoort is very big ****

I'm not sure actualy. I never had to install my wireless drivers for Vista. The network and bluetooth drivers were automatically installed durring the setup.
I have a TX800 series ( it has the same wireless set as the SZ model )

The Asus 5.6 driver also works on XP very nicely. Two fewer services, a bit less memory, more tolerant of off center swipes and multiple encrypted archives and context menus replace the safe.

    Hi,

I did a fesh install of vista yesterday and I was somehow disappointed by sony's drivers. My FN keys for the Nvidia chipset looks like it's not working properly. The stamina/speed button is not handled and there is no power management utility although there is this battery check update thing which doesn't appear to do anything.
Oh one last thing, i can't get the camera to work with the drivers they provided. Funny thing, it asks me to be on windows vista...

And of course the memory stick/card reader is still not recognized.

About the camera or the stamina/speed button or s1/s2 buttons, did someone make it work? Are those updates some kind of things you have to install after the normal xp drivers?

    Thanks

The camera drivers are broken. Several around here have reported negative results, including me.

The function keys and buttons should work with shared dll's, utility dlls, event monitor & Nvidia driver.

    Just installed the drivers.

    What's working:
FN volume control, mute, display monitor, bluetooth, wireless switch, stamina/speed switch

    What's not working:
    - FN screen brightness control: I installed the nvidia driver from sony's site too. For some reason the brightness would only go down one level and nothing more, and the screen actually remains at the brightness anyways.

    - No vaio power mgmt.

    - camera: the driver failed to install.

    - also for bluetooth, I can't figure out how to turn off the radio. Before Vista, it is usually off by default, which is what I wanted.

    - Intel wireless driver: the link on esupport for this seems to be broken...

    - fingerprint sensor

I am also having trouble making a VPN connection on top of wifi.

I'm on a TX850 and my Intel Wireless was automatically installed durring the Vista install. It was default locked down and refused to connect to my wireless network here untill I forced it to do so.
I believe the Proset wireless is the same in the SZ series.

For Bluetooth..it's kind of out of the way and I'm sure there is an easier way but..what I do is go into Device Manager and just distable everything that says BlueTooth under Blue Tooth Radios. You migth be able to just goto network devices and look at which one is the bluetooth one and disable it there it'll turn teh radio off I think.

On a TX850 I have yet to get Fn Keys and the Quick Keys next to the power button to work o_O.

I'm still struggling with the fingerprint thing and the TPM thing. I was quite depressed on a fresh install of Vista it was one of the things that failed to work right off.

I was finaly able to get the fingerprint scanner on the TX850 to 'work'.
I used what bsgd posted here : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=101461

After the install and a reboot, it asked me to enroll my fingers but to the hard drive only; the enroll to biometric device was greyed out. My TX850 has a TPM chip built in that is supost to store all this stuffon, that was my understanding anyways.

So far it works the way it did in XP. I thought it would be more secure with vista and take advantage of computers with the TPM chip.
    ow well

-- Nevermind , I read the help file and aparently enabling "Enable Advanced Security for the current user" in the Advanced Security Dialog of the Enrollment wizard lets the TPM chip boost the security of the fingerprint scanner. I have no idea what that greyd out option is for o.o

    Ok thanks for answering.

As far as I know I could make the fingerprints driver/software work using what some told on other threads: download asus drivers for the R1 series.

However, my s1,s2 buttons are still not working and i wanted to know if you followd any specific installation order.

I just reinstalled vista and would like to do everything well.

As for the camera for the sz. I m not sure about it but I do remember me making it work on the RTM version using the XP drivers. At least those would install and the camera would be detected. Not sure about that though

Well, before installing anything, turn off UAC. This is a very important step. The vista runs flawlessly on my SZ. Everything including FN keys, fingerprint device, and camera, and stamina-speed switch. As for the dual graphic swich, I installed the old XP power management util. And it works fine.

WHAT IS UAC.. SOrry im not to tech savvy ... And how can it be turned off ..
DENIKIN by the way how did u install everythin did u do a clean install or an update to windows vista..
IF u did a clean install is their any particular order we should all follow to install the utilities and drivers for everythin to work
I got the webcam to work with xp drivers but the S1&S2 and speed and speed and stamina switch and wirless on and off and still not working and the finger print reader is also like most of u is still down ..
and the HARD DISK DRIVE protection is also down ..
I think sony needs to do a better job then this for their existing clients and get all the drivers on their ..
    ITs so darn confusing ..
I guess they dont care that much about the people that switched the first and second day .. they will release the remaining proper drivers and utilites that will make everythin function after .. god knows how long ..
tech support at sony is clueless what to suggest. .

DENIKIN ur the only one that has everythin working how did u do it bro more details would be nice

Install your shared DLL last. Make sure to get brightness working you install the NVIDIA driver from the Sony site - don't stick with the one that ships with Vista.

I have everything except power management working, but I don't know if Sony even bothered to implement it for Vista.

UAC is "User Account Control." Try google to know about this. Anyway, run msconfig to disable UAC. This is a key point to install drivers. I also used a few softwares and drivers of SZ4XX, which are downloadable at Sony. Yes. Harddrive protection works.

The 64Bit-VISTA only works on SZs from the SZ3..-Series up.
On my SZ250 it doesn't work, because of the lack of the 64Bit-Support of the CPU. It uses a Core Duo.

    The Core 2 Duo added EMT64/ 64Bit-Support.

I've got a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate waiting to be installed once ALL is working properly. Hopefully someone will be kind enough to write up a Step by Step guide to install a Fresh copy of VIsta and drivers once it's all worked out.

Final question... I have an SZ360, does the Ultimate DVD have both the x64 and x32 versions on it? Is there something special that needs to be done to choose the right version, or does Windows know what hardware the PC has?

    Thanks in advance!

I installed the NVidia driver & then Shared DLL. FN utilities including brightness start working. Thanks FenderP.

I have installed everything except Sony Media/DVD software, sonic stage, click to DVD, DVgate and LAN utilities, wireless utilities, Toshiba bluetooth stack. I don't want to install these DVD/sony media software.

Should I installed bluetooth, wireless & LAN utilities. I'm using the one with Ultimate & it is working fine.

I was finnaly able to get the Fn keys, AVmode keys(TX) and the wireless on/off switch and volume controls to work on my TX.

1st I installed AV mode buttons. It gave me an error at the end saying it wasn't supported for vista. So I run it in compatability mode and says it can only be installed on vista .. not sure about that one,

2nd I installed Sony VAIO Event Serrvice,

3nd I installed Sony Shared Library,

4th I installed Sony Utilities DLL.

I rebooted between each one just in case. Everything so far for my Vaio TX850P seems to be working fine except the Sony Memory Stick / SD Card reader; neither work yet.

Since I was bored, I logged into the Sony tech support page and did a live-online chat with an "agent" there. I told them that I did a clean install of Vista Business on my SZ240P, but the "Vista" drivers on the support page didn't address the several "unknown devices" that came up, and that I couldn't turn Bluetooth off.

The answer: "Sony notebooks are only intended for the operating systems which they are designed/shipped with"

So I asked why they put a Vista section on the support page at all then, and they didn't have an answer. They said I should bookmark the page and go back to it later, that maybe something would be there then.

I nearly fell off my chair laughing.

What?????????? If i was buy Sony Vaio shipped with XP is not possible to use Vista if i want to use for example the camera, fingerprint reader....
Or if i want to use Vista i should buy new notebook shipped with Vista? Sorry Sony, my Vaio SZ1XP/C is Premuim edition with carbon fibre body, is not a budget notebook to change every year like Asus or Acer.
Or may be with this terrible Sony support is time to go to Toshiba....

The xp drivers are over at esupport.sony.com, for your model computer just look. I installed the xp driver on an sz330p. It cleared the unknown device icon in the device manager, but the camera does not work, or show up under scanners & cameras.

Anyone manage to get their lapop to automatically reduce it's brightness when running on batteries, then switch to full brightness when plugged in?

This is how my FS-295XP Vaio used to work with XP, and it's the only thing I have not been able to get working using these instructions (can control brightness manually using the Fn keys).

Automatic brightness change is controlled by VAIO power management program which has not been released from the website.

we gotta wait folks .. im sure of it that sony will release the complete drivers for everythin such as the hard driver protection and everythin ..

For all u folks that claim that everythin works .. can u tell me if ur HDD protection works .. ..
Cuz no drivers were released for the VGNSZ120p.. for that im not sure who else has my model ..
SOny needs to speed up the process .. i guess they did not anticipate that so many users would switch first day or second day ... Losers .. the more we complain and call in the sooner they will get this **** running ..
