Does anyone already know if Sony will add a new 11 inch to their series to make a response to the new developped Macbook Air 11 inch?

I'm not speaking of the thickness but only speaking about the inches.

Haven't heard anything, but I'm sure there are many that have the same question.

The Sony VAIO X is thinner and it's also 11 inch, loner battery life and 2 included batteries.
    The X13 just came out.

It's actually not thinner with the extended battery, the Air has the edge. Also, it's far far slower.

There are 3 batteries available for the X, the VGP-BPL19 should be able to pull in around 8 or 9 hours may be with tweaked settings.

The OP though was looking for a ULV laptop. Of course it would be nice to see Sony make a return to this market. For me they make the most complete ultraportables. The MBA looks like a very good laptop and it will be right for many people. However, i would not purchase an ultraportable <12.1 with less than 8hrs battery life and built in wwan. Things like built in ethernet is a plus also. It would be good to see may be Sony offering a choice of dedicated or Intel integrated graphics like they do with the Y series. I would always opt for integrated graphics. The Y series with dedicated graphics offers about 5hrs battery life.

A removable dvd drive/second HD and a weight saver would be nice also.

Could anyone tell me why they don't give the opportunity to have an I3 or maybe I5 processor in a 11 inch notebook? It's always a atom or something like that. I know that it has to do something with battery life?

Thermal envelope. Apple could have went i5 or i3 but they wouldn't have had the room to do the Nvidia graphics. The Core2Duo is plenty enough, trust me.

But yes, I would very much like to see Sony get back into the ULV ultraportable market. As long as the X has an Atom, it's still a netbook to me, and a rather expensive one at that.

There are 11.6 notebooks with i3 and i5 ULV processors. The Acer 1830T comes with those processors.
Battery life is a bit shorter with these new gen processors. The next gen cpu/gpu should be more interesting on that front.

Apple did not want to use Intel graphics and there is no space for switchable graphics so they had to use the last gen processors. It's all about Intel's rules.

I have Sony x (1.86GHz) as well as Sony p. I really wanted to like Sony x but atom CPU makes it painfully slow. It just sluggish no matter what I am doing even if I am just browsing Internet. My friend who bought it before me told me about this problem but unfortunately I did not listen. My wife tried to use it but found keys to be too small. I also bough that direct from japan "L" battery which improved battery life, still it lasts less than 5 hours by just browsing Internet. (I should add that Sony p has even less usage for me running its atom CPU at 800 Hz most of the time because of overheat).

I played with new MacBook air today and I liked it a lot. It was very responsive (I wish it has new i3 CPU, still I have similar 1.4GHz C2D in my lenovo x301 and it is pretty fast), keyboard was great (not as good as thinkpad keyboard in x301 but better than many other laptops). I also think that it has better screen that Sony x

Bottom line, I am planning to buy one and to install win 7 under bootcamp. It's really a pity that Sony has no similar model.

Yeah it's too bad they don't make an even thinner and lighter version of the Z without the optical drive. That's really all they'd have to do.

Z without an optical drive, that would be so nice. More structural integrity and less bulk.

Z without a drive actually does exist, in Germany you can customize it without a drive.

Yes, but he meant a Z which has been designed using the benefits of having the additional space of the then non-existing optical drive.

No, actually, I prefer a 13" Z without optical drive. I find 11" is too small for getting serious work done for long periods of time; it's good only for surfing and entertainment. 13" is min size for working for me.

I think my Z is just awesome, but...

If Sony made an 11" with core i7 and quad raid 0 (and don't forget the backlit keyboard :) ) and no dvd. Well, I would definitely be buying that one and trading in the Z.

As far as dedicated graphics, personally I would be ok with just integrated graphics on that one (but I could go either way on that).

That could not have been a better reply. I would as well, if you're not primarily interested in OSX. If Windows is your primary interest, wait until Sony and some others show at CES. This is the year of the ultraportables and tablets... it's gonna be good.
