The new Sony VAIO F (F21) is supposed to come on Sunday. Same with the new C-series.

Remember, this Sunday would be preorders. They might not necessarily ship until a few weeks.

Dammit Sony, I love you, but you are killing our relationship. I need some love, I'm starting to wander.

I love my Z. It was the perfect laptop. Insane screen, weighs nothing, a P9600 and 8Gb of ram for me to edit with.

But it's two years on and I need a new laptop. Where are all the VAIOs? I know the Sandy Bridge f*** up has delayed everyone's 2011 crops, but at least other manufacturers are telling me what they're planning. All I can find on the Sony website are Ex's, outdated F's, the S, and some all-in-ones. I see the F 3D, but I need something smaller, and no 3D.

I need a 2630qm +, 1920x1080, NV Fermi, 13-16", and lightweight metal/carbon construction. Sony you are the only manufacturer I have faith will deliver this. But will you?

I looked at Dell. They were cheap, powerful, plastic, bulky and heavy. I looked at HP, the same. Sager/Clevo, the same. All great gear, but I want to spend 30% more and have the lightest, thinnest, most clean looking machine I can.

Lord help me, I looked at Apple. Thin, light, aluminium, only missing the NV and Windows. I weighed up a Macbook Pro 15. I was about to pull the trigger when I realised the screen is only 1400x900.

Sony! Please, tell me what you're up to! Stop me straying!

TL;DR Does anyone know what Sony is planning for Sandy Bridge VAIO's this year?

First of all, the "S" series on SonyStyle USA is the new Sandy Bridge SB series, also there are NUMEROUS threads floating around on the forum about the SA/SB, CA/CB and the yet unannounced sucessor to the Z series. In short, wait til early-mid summer before you can see the high-end SA or Z successor in the USA(the details are all on those threads)

It looks like the CB might be my only hope, even if it's packing the Radeon. If only I had a lamp I could rub:

    14", matte 1920x1080, 100% Adobe RGB, 2630qm, 540m, carbon/aluminium chassis.

I suppose compromise is an inevitable part of life.

Do you *NEED* a laptop at the moment? the VGN-Z you got is still better than 70% of all the laptops out there? Can you wait til possibly the summer for the SA or Z replacement/successor?

The ones that should pop up on Sonystyle USA over the weekend (according to the Sony Youtube channel can't remember the name sorry) are:

    F 3D
    C 14" and 15.5"
    L All in One 24"

The SB 13.3" came up on the site earlier this week. Right now ETA on the SB for a CTO is 3/29 so I'd imagine the other three machines should ship around that date or first week of April (educated guess).

I wonder why the F series is not getting updated with Sandy Bridge (I mean the regular ones not the 3D)?
They're still selling last year's models.

All other major manufacturers have updated their high end systems.

Why there's no word about the F series successor?
I am not interested in the smaller screen vaios like S series, C series and all, I want the desktop replacement F series with Sandy Bridge (no, not the 3D).

Dell, HP and all have updated their equivalent 15-17 inch models while Sony is still selling their outdated F series.

I think it's being assumed that last year's model will be completely phased out in favor of the 3D version.

Yep, the F is supposedly going to be replaced by the F21 we saw at CES w/ a 3-D display avaliable for pre-order this Sunday at SonyStyle US, but with yesterday's 8.9 earthquake, it might not show for a while (apparently a few CTO CB/SB in the EU got pulled last night)

    AMEN to that!

In the FW and recent F series, Sony had a reasonably portable notebook that had exactly the perfect sized screen for both content creation and (entertainment) consumption.

Now they gut the line by effectively saying "We're gonna aim this 16 inch platform at a TINIER audience; a group who wants to lug around a porky notebook which only shines if you remember to stow the 3D glasses"

    Brilliant move, Sony.

And not just that, the F21 has probably the best screen you could get in a laptop with 100% NTSC color gamut coverage and the best 3D experience on a laptop so far with similar technology that is used in 3D Bravia TVs. :)
