Not sure how to explain this...but it pretty much comes down to, light solid colors being displayed on the screen....well, dont really look like that color. There seem to be small subpixels of multiple colors that are everywhere within, say a white background.

I think this has to do with the sub-pixels, and a bad LCD. Seems that some of the light from these subpixels are leaking out, so my supposedly white background has very small specks of red, blue, green, EVERYWHERE. These are not dead pixels (nor stuck ones). It is the same anywhere on the LCD.

Has anyone else experienced this? I convinced Sony to bring my laptop in for repair..but i'm trying to decide if its worth it. Did I just get a crappy LCD? Or is everyone's LCD like this? I saw the SZ110 at Best Buy, and i dont remember the LCD to be this poor.

thanks, I will do that. I was reading up a little more on this issue (not specifically on the vaio, but on laptops in general), and it seems like it may be a sign of a dying backlight on the LCD.

Someone posted up on another site that they returned their vaio, since they called up sony with this issue and they said that the LCD, especially the backlight was considered a consumable and not something they repair? Anyways...I will send it in once Sony gets the box mailed out to me.

Kind of sucks I havent had the laptop more than a few days and I'm sending it in...but I got such a good deal on it that its still worth it.

I am def. going to send it in.

I stopped by Best Buy today, and checked out the SZ220, which I assume is the same LCD. The colors on the screen seems much less grainy than mine. I am still not sure whether this is considered "defective by Sony", but we shall see. It really isnt that bad, and still very useable, but for the cost of the laptop, I would expect better.

I am going to include a letter, explaining the problem, and asking them to replace the LCD/backlight, if not because it is defective, but out of good will, since the laptop is so new (the place I got it from has none less..but I got a good price so I dont want to return it).

Do you all think it would be better if I paid for on-site service and asked them to come out to replace it like that? Do you think they are more or less leniant on repairs for on-site?

got a call from sony...they say it is not defective and they will not be replacing the LCD/backlight. What a bunch of chumps.....the person who I talked to was not useful at all, and would only say that the technician looked at it using some calibration dvds and it was within spec.

Do I have any recourse here with Sony? Or is there really nothing I can do now since they said that it was not defective?
