    I ~think~ you can configure a sony to be < $1000 but it wouldn't be a very good spec.

    Best thing to do would be to go to the main sony website or try searching on froogle.com

    I suppose really only the Vaio N series from stores and maybe if you buy used you have more choices. Vaios can be pretty expensive compared to the competition....

    Basically, the "good" VAIO models (the ones that are unique in looks and/or features and size) are well beyond the $1000 range. The Vaio N offers nothing spectacular, and there are many better alternatives. But the SZ, TX and UX series are gems...
