Hullo, just writing to let people know, I sent in my XPS m1330 for trade in to sonystyle.ca, when i sent it in it was in very good condition:

    New Palmrest
    New Keyboard
    New Battery

So cosmetically, and functionally it was near new. I formatted it to stock vista, and before it left my hands it was running perfectly, and quoted at $403.

Today i received an email mentioning these faults:

    1. Unit powers on but shuts down intermittently.
    2. Light leakage bright spots on the LCD screen.
    3. Battery doesn't charge to its full design.

The second one i can understand as it sometimes does look a bit weird when the screen is completly blank, but otherwise it was running perfectly with its new battery and reformatted Vista 32 OS before i shipped it out.

The trade in value was re-evaluated to $150, so I just asked for it back, which costs me $30 shipping. I called in and there was nothing i could do as this was what "the technicians discovered." I totally don't believe these findings, and ill probably just use my laptop when i get it back untill the graphics card gives out.

Luckily i purchased m CW270 from BB US and wasnt depending on this trade-in.
What a waste of my time and money!

It has the air of the Geforce 8xxxm fiasco about it, and its nearing the end of its life. I have no more warranty left, and i performed the copper mod to prolong its life. I didn't want to sell it to anyone who may have it fail on them in the next month or two either.

I love that laptop to death, so i guess ill see out its last days myself.

Yep, this is my second year, and i have about one month left of the warranty. I called in and they mentioned that i am not able to get my mobo replaced unless it has totally failed, which it hasnt yet.

If the unit shuts off intermittently or the temps are ridiculously high, those are grounds for a repair service. Its possible could write it off for a replacement.

Play a few games and see if it overheats or even fails.

Download and run furmark. That will max it out from the get go.

The issue is that it never happened in my hands before i shipped it to Sony (and this is their claim), i was stressing the card at maxed out SC2 settings/3DMark06 to test my copper mod and all it did was hit 70 degrees.

I guess i'll see what i can do, and if it actually does turn off intermittently when i get it back. I'm just worried about reversing the copper mod as i don't have the silicone heatsync pad left.

But now it just seems like a discussion on my DELL machine, which is off-topic for this forum section, thanks for the replies.
