Hi Colleagues. I have this problem in my FZ-Vaio (specification in my signature) since I installed English Vista, and sometimes during starting up (also after sleep mode), the laptop starts up quite normal, but then there is no sound. Any application that uses sound card (e.g. media player) gives then failure errors. When I restart, then everything is ok. I suspected there could be some startup program doing that. I disabled the sidebar but this continued to happen though not as frequent as before. I can't identify the reason. Also searched for updated sound drivers without successful. Please advice on this.

It would help if you posted the error message. You might also look at the Application log and the System log, to see if you can get some further information on what is failing. Sidebar will have no bearing on sound.

Thanks Gary. Do you have any idea of updated sound drivers for the FZ series?

No, but you still have not answered the question. What is the error message? Were there error messages in the logs?

What logs you mean? and how to reach to read them? I recognize absence of voice only when I try to play media files. That's when WMP or media center or any other player fails to play the file. I don't remember exactly what the error message of WMP exactly says, but it is like: "WMP can't play this file".

When WMP says it can't play the file are you able to hear OTHER sounds from the machine? Is this a problem with ALL sound applications or just WMP? As to the logs go to help on your machine and search for System Logs and Application Logs.

It is not only WMP. It is everything to do with sound. Even the "peep" sound produced by the hot keys are no longer there. I will check the logs now, thanks for help troubleshooting.
