    Hi,

    I've just received a new SZ2XP and the sound doesn't work :(

To be more precise, the internal speakers do not work, headphones are fine.

Has anyone else experienced this or similar? And does anybody know a fix.

    Thanks in advance,

    Nik

Maybe the hardware is not detected by the system, try the recovery CD and /or "add new hardware" from the control panel. Before doing that, double click the volume icon and check that all volumes are up. I once had a similar problem on a Dell, the speakers were very low but headphones were fine. After increasing master volume and all the rest, it worked fine.

    Hi Bobdare,

Thanks for your reply, any suggestions are appreciated.

The device is displaying correctly in device manager and the speakers are definitely not muted. I have already tried reinstalling the card several times using the latest files from vaio link using both the setup program and manually using the INF file. I have also set up a dual boot with the latest beta of Vista and that does the same thing, I've also tried booing from a live distribution of Linux and although ALSA sees the car still no sound...

I've also updated the BIOS and checked the speaker level in there but it hasn't made a difference. I can't even get a system beep out of it, for example if you hold down a key during switch on to simulate a keyboard failure.

It looks like I'm just going to have to send it back :(

    Thanks again for your suggestions,

    Nik
