Wow, there are virtually NO options in the FZ Bios. All we can change is date, time, passwords and boot order of the various drive types that's it.

I went looking to see if there were any options for enabling the hardare virtualization bits, but no luck.

Do all the VAIO models have such minimalistic Bios options?

If I heard correctly, Sony disabled the option for virtualization in the BIOS for their Vaios.

They might as well lock the BIOS down completely, because it's worthless as it stands right now. I'm surprised it even lets you change boot order.

Yeah I was SHOCKED. I've never seen a Bios with so few options.

Then this must be your first Sony. ;)

I have 4 of them dating back to a 1.5GHz Pentium 4 (when they were new!) and the BIOS has always been like this.

Nope, it's actually my third first was a Z505SX, then a XG39 and now the FZ. The other two had a few more settings. Looking at the XG39 one right now it had tabs for Main, Advanced, Security, Power, and Boot options. None as populous as a desktop BIOS mind you but nowhere near as SPARSE as the FZ one.

    Gary

P.S. these two others are MUCH slower than your earliest one... grin

I guess less options mean less support calls. :D

As much as I like my VAIO, sometimes it seems like I'm renting it from Sony. Or its a company laptop with features locked out by the IT department.

It was not always that way. My old Z505SX and XG39 have quite a bit more "features" in the BIOS.
