    Hi there,

I have a vaio S series (SA2) and the speaker on the right side doesn't output any sound. i was wondering if this would be a software/driver problem or a physical problem? Can anyone help me? Thanks.

If you plug in some headphones into the audio jack, and you get sound in both ears, that sounds like a hardware problem to me rather than a software/driver problem.

Thanks for the reply. There is sound on both sides when I put headphones in. Does anyone know if i can take apart the laptop to see the speaker wires?

Unless someone has opened it earlier, or it has been dropped really hard, the speaker connector should not have come loose on its own.

You can look for a disassembly guide for your model. Check the sticky at the top of the index page.

You should also look through all the driver pages (there are a number of them) and see if there is a balance slider that is set all the way to one side.

If the balance slider is all the way to one side, wouldn't that affect the headphones as well?

Not necessarily. Depends on the driver.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the audio driver.

Is your audio adapter a Realtek device? Try installing the generic driver from the Realtek website.

Btw. for a new laptop you should be getting free support. Pester them until you get an answer, or get them to replace your laptop.
