any way to speed up booting from sleep. it seems to take forever for windows to resume???

I think that might just be a Windows issue. Even on my desktop with Q6600 (2.4 GHz Core 2 Quad overclocked to 3.0 GHz) and 4GB RAM, the Windows startup loading screen still seems to take forever. You can cut down on the loading after you log in by cleaning up some startup processes & removing bloatware, though.

From sleep...as in when the red/orange light is flashing instead of green? umm... it takes from sleep to active maybe like 3 seconds...plus login....so i guess a total of like 15 seconds from sleeping to login to just the windows screen... not too bad... especially since my old thinkpad took like 60 seconds...
Cut down on crapware as lattice said, use CC Cleaner and fix your registry plus disable unneccesary startup programs... goood luck! -
for me from orange light to green 30 or more seconds. i have frsh start ne suggestions. 76 processes use avast antivirus
-
start > control panel > system & maintenance > performance information & tools > advanced tools
And look if anything is listed under 'performance issues' (ie, "Drivers are interfering with Windows resuming from sleep mode").
Also, I noticed on my TZ that the fingerprint reader takes almost 10 seconds to become active from sleep, and double that if it's setup with TPM enabled. -
in that menu i have a drver interfering its nvvidia compatible windows vista kernel mode driver. file nlvddmkm.sys. it gives me a help option remove from list option and ok option. any suggestions
-
from sleep or from hybernation? cause from sleep my laptop is pretty fast.. but from hybernation it takes longer than booting the system from OFF
-
both do u have the driver erros is performance
like AFD said to look for -
From sleep, it's literally like a second for me. I didn't try from hibernation though. I did a clean installation on my Z.

hybridz *** that helps. my problem is exactly what ADH said. trying to boost ur number of posts?????
-
he is just trying to give some input.
learn some grammar skills first
and then learn to appreciate the help from others -
i apoligize. im stressed out im chatting with sony support not helping. ADH nailed my problem on the head. three people have posted how fast their boots. are. i get it, mine is not booting fast. im sorry about being a jerk. im trying to resolve this problem. next time ill bite my tongue. Sorry its the stupid nvidia driver and my sat night drunkin pissed off rage. i apoligize Hybridz i just wish someone had an answer.

Perhaps you can try updating the NVIDIA driver, although it's odd that other Z owners aren't having the same problem. I checked the Sony eSupport site for your model, but it only lists the original driver - but you can also check for an updated driver via Device Manager...
start > control panel > hardware & sound > device manager
Click on the '+' sign by 'display adapters' and right click on the NVIDIA entry, then left click on 'properties'. Go to the 'driver' tab, and click on 'update driver'. Choose 'search automatically', then 'yes, search online this time only'. After searching for an update, it will let you know if the currently installed driver is up-to-date, or if an update is available.
I have no idea if the NVIDIA driver is really the cause of the problem, but it's probably worth checking out just in case. -
AFD as you can see im freaking. sorry to get your name wrong. its 8.8 seconds then two other issues which are one second each. tried updating didnt work. from the site and from the device manager. thinking of creating a new thread with the driver name to see if anyone comes forward.. thanks for your help

A bit of a stab in the dark, but try going to laptopvideo2go.com and trying some of the drivers there?

Just another idea (thanks to Hybr1dz' name)..
Make sure your Z is not set for 'Hybrid Sleep'. With Vista, there are now 4 off modes: shutdown, hibernate, sleep, and hybrid sleep. Hybrid sleep is where the computer writes your RAM state to the hard drive (like hibernate with lots of disk activity) and then goes into normal sleep mode. Hybrid sleep is much slower than regular sleep, and there are no benefits for using this mode on laptops with batteries installed.
start > control panel > mobile pc > power options..
Then click on "change plan settings" under whichever plan you currently have selected (ie, VAIO Optimized). Then click on "change advanced power settings", and click on the '+' sign beside 'sleep' and then again on the '+' sign beside 'allow hybrid sleep'. Make sure both 'on battery' and 'plugged in' are set to OFF.
Again, just something to check. And don't stress too much about it.. 30 second wake from sleep is a little much, but there's gotta be some solution to it.
Just for a reference, I checked my wake from sleep on my TZ. Closed the lid and let it enter sleep mode, which took less than 5 seconds. Then opened lid, and it took about 3 seconds to display the log-on screen, typed in password, then it took around another 10 seconds or so to show the desktop. So, around 15 seconds total here.
On the other hand, a cold boot takes around 2 minutes to desktop and a boot from hibernation takes around a minute or less. -
i think im just gonna wait for an update for the z drivers. the hybrid graphics drivers have never been updated. hopefully that will solve it. im having no luck. thx for ur help.

. You, myself and the rest of the Z owners have spent a ton of money on a machine we expect the most out of. It wasn't my intention to 'brag' about my wake-up time but I did mention that I have done a clean installation. I noticed you have the fresh start option. Perhaps there's a fundamental difference between a clean installation and a fresh start that's causing this problem.
AFD mentioned hybrid sleep mode. I've checked my settings and hybrid sleep mode is off so if this setting is turned on, this may be the cause of your slow wake up time.
I also do NOT suggest using the laptopvideo2go drivers. Sony modified the nvidia drivers so the graphical switching would work. I tried several times to get the laptopvideo2go drivers to work. It would appear to install fine but there is still a yellow exclamation mark on the adapter and it would still only run in VGA mode.
I also don't think the finger print utilities should affect the wake up time either as I have them installed too.
So that should be a bunch of things to eliminate. Oh btw, I did try hibernate and it does take a while. Almost as long as a cold boot.
I think it's either you're using hybrid sleep or you are actually putting your notebook into hibernation mode and not sleep mode. If you are seeing the "Windows is resuming..." screen, you are using hibernation mode. Waking up from sleep should not do that.
IIRC, the VAIO power management utilities sets some buttons and certain situations to have your notebook go into hibernation mode by default. I remember having to change a couple of them to sleep mode. So this may very well be the reason.
Edit: I just saw that you do have a driver issue. Try the Z nVidia drivers posted here: http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/down... 7.15.11.7449.zip&ip=Preinstalled_Drivers.htm
I used those and I have no problems in the "Performance Issues" screen. -
Keep in mind though that booting, waking up from sleep, and waking up from hibernate are three different things.
-
Anyway, good ideas for ZZ to check. My TZ had the "fresh start", and around 70 processes running, so that's probably okay. Unless maybe a particular installed app is causing the lag? -
Hybridz, checked my power settings and hibernation was off. yet my Z was going into hibernation not sleep.. very weird. Installed the driver from link provided and perf. isssues are gone and the Z goes to sleep for the first time. Now mine takes 3 sec. i guess the US support drivers are somehow diff from the UK ones but they have the same version number. Thank you Hybridz and AFD. Once again im sorry about last night. i was not in the right frame o mind. once again thank you and im sure that link will come in handy for many more owners to come
