Hi, I have a Vaio VGN-FZ11E running on Vista sp2. Since a few days, without any clear reason, my computer just goes into sleep randomly. It has nothing to do with overheating or power supply I think. So what happens: suddenly the screen goes black, and the power goes off and the lights go out. Then when I move my mouse or press enter, the computer switches on again and goes back to where I was, without any error report.
I already deleted the hibernate file in the hard disk cleaner, but nothing changed.
Does anyone have an idea? thanks...

    Check your energy saving settings.

A laptop/computer can be set to automatically go into standby/hybernation if you don't use it for say 1minute, 5 minutes...

Your energy saving settings would be the first place to look.

Nono, its not that. The energy settings are on maximum performance and it also happens while i am doing something.

It is NOT hibernating, it is going into standby. So deleting the hibernation file would have no effect.

Even though the power settings appear to be correct, you might want modify one setting in them and reapply them. Or try picking a different power profile and then come back to the original one.

Also do you have any third party apps monitoring the power level. The "Vista Battery Saver" app or something similar.

How often doe this happen? Is there any similarity to what is running when this occurs?

I have already changed the power settings and changed to another profile but it's always the same.
I don't think I have any apps like that. I've looked for the vista battery saver but I can't find it.
It really happens a lot now, in the last 30 minutes for example it happened 4 times. It's really driving me crazy as you can probably imagine... I'm afraid it is some kind of virus or a stupid vista bug. Thanks for the help anyway!

    Just a thought:
Considering that your settings and hardware are OK.

Have you run a virus scan?

Ok, I disabled the Vaio Power Managment function in the power settings. Let's see if anything changes...

OK, so where do we stand:
No virus (given that your antivirus is "trustworthy")
    No false setting.

I'm thinking of suggesting Windows repair, but!!!!This will mess about just about any Sony setting, which means yu might as well recover the whole system.

I do hope someone comes up with a solution.

Edit: Good luck with that attempt! :)

this is not the solution, still the same problem.

Ok, what would a windows repair mean? How do I do it and what does it do excactly? I could also format the pc and instal the os again but if there is an easier solution i'd prefer that...

Windows repair - bsically stick in the CD ad go to repair, but, as I said, it messes everything up. I'm speaking from experince here.

I had Vista do a repair on my SZ - Vaio Power managment gone, HDD protection gone, etcetera...

I think unless somebody finds a solution, a new instal is better than a Windows repair.

    But wait a little longer.

the solution at this point seems to be just to back up your important files and do a system restore
