I've been searching around but am having a hard time finding the answer to this one. Does anyone have built-in Sprint WWAN working on their Z (mine is a Z540) in Windows 7 64bit?

I can toggle Wireless WAN on and then see 4 Data Interface items listed in Device Manager that need drivers....

I downloaded the SmartWi Connection Utility for the Z690 Win 7 Pro x64, but it looks like it only works with Verizon. Shortly after opening the SmartWi util I got the BSOD. I uninstalled and haven't had problems since. Any suggestions? Anyone get this Win 7 to work with the Sprint WWAN yet?

I have a Z520N, and am in same boat as you.

Everything else is working great, but no Sprint WWAN and 4 unknown "Data Interface" devices in Device Manager.

Interestingly enough, before I did a clean Windows 7 64bit install I upgraded from the stock Vista Business 32bit to Windows 7 32bit and the WWAN worked perfctly.

I think it's just a matter of finding the right driver for Vista or Windows 7.
Does anyone know what card it has? I tried asking Sony "Support" but they said the information was unpublished...

I found out that the Z600 series on does not use the Sprint module (uses GOBI). I then read that the Z5xx Vista driver should work. Downloaded that and now I can get to the point where it tries to activate, but to no avail. Anyone else have luck with this?

If you have the windows.old folder from your previous version , go to the device manager and click on the unknown device to add the driver.... browse to the programs folder and then the sprint folder. The wwan driver already installed on the 32 bit OS also contained 64 bit drivers just sitting in that directory. Simply "update device driveR" and point to that directory (manually browse). It will find the drivers and install them. :)

Problem solved (worked like a charm on my z590 -- old 32 bit Vista, new 64 bit Windows 7).

Thanks for the tip fast_Lane! Unfortunately I don't have the windows.old folder since I did a clean install. You wouldn't happen to be able to upload yours would you (don't even know if that is possible on this forum)? Did the path in Windows.old look something like \Program Files\Sony Corporation\SmartWi Connection Utility\Drivers ?

I've got my WWAN working again, here's how I did it:

Install the version of Sony's SmartWi on the z520n's download page. If you turn on the WWAN it should give a message about failing to initialize.

Next download and install this Novatel utility from Sprint( http://www.sprint.com/assets/downloads/windows_vista/executables/SMBFull_Installer_V3.10.014.exe). This installs an application that will not work, but it also installed the drivers for the WWAN card.

Using SmartWi, turn on the WWAN card and Windows should see the card and install the driver.

I went through Sprint's activation wizard and it said my device was already activated, so I canceled out.

It also took a while for it to get on a Rev.A connection, but it did after some time.

    Hope that helps.

Edit: After rebooting and testing things I noticed that I have to start that Novatel utility, fight through it's error message boxes, and close it before the SmartWi utility will connect. So it's not 100%, but it works....

I did something similar that worked. I uninstalled SmartWi (it seemed to be a little kludgy when it came to controlling my WLAN) and then downloaded Sprint SmartView ( http://www6.sprint.com/downloads/sprint_smartview/executables/SSV_Windows2.27.0064.exe). I still have VAIO Smart Network installed and it looks like that combined with SmartView is all I need to make this work. Simply installing SmartView took care of my drivers. I still need VAIO Smart Network to toggle the WAN on/off.
