For you new Vaio Z owners or whichever new laptop owners out there, if you need a warranty that's cheaper (and potentially better) than the Sony one, check out this thread on slickdeals:

Squaretrade Warranty / Warranties - 30% off with NO MAX! TODAY 12/9/10 ONLY! - Slickdeals.net

It's a special deal for Slickdeals users, but unlike the other 30/40% off codes... this code has NO LIMIT! (the 30/40% off codes had a $30/$40 limit, respectively) Here's a link to the SquareTrade page for laptop warranties: SquareTrade | Laptop Insurance Alternative | Laptop Warranty | Laptop extended warranty | Laptop Warranties

    IF your Z is < $2000

3 year extended warranty through Sony: $250
    3 year extended through SquareTrade: $200 -$60(30%) = $140

3 year extended warranty w/ ADH* through Sony: $400
    3 year extended w/ ADH* through SquareTrade: $400 - $120(30%) = $280

    IF your Z is < $2000

3 year extended warranty through Sony: $250
    3 year extended through SquareTrade: $250 -$75(30%) = $175

3 year extended warranty w/ ADH* through Sony: $400
    3 year extended w/ ADH* through SquareTrade: $500 - $150(30%) = $350

HOWEVER, if your Z is the latest and greatest ($4500) you might be better off going with Sony's flat rate, but for those who got a simpler Z, this is a better deal

Great deal, I am thinking hard about it. Website says it is only available in US, so I called and asked what happens if I buy it in the US (and the laptop) and then move to Russia?

She put me on hold and said it will work. I am hesitant to believe her, except she did have quite a lot of details that sure made her sound good...

I am worried about having no warranty, my accidental coverage came through for me on my Toshiba years ago, though to be fair the price of the warranty is probably about the price of a screen repair, which is pretty much the only thing likely to happen, and if it does not... argh!

Would feel more comfortable with the Sony warranty but as you outlined this is a huge deal. My first plan is to call Sony and say if they cover half the warranty I will buy the laptop + warranty... maybe I will get lucky and this will work (I will be sure to say I can get a competing warranty for much less today :)).

Woa, I see on Sony's terms, section 12, "A. Any Product located outside of the United States of America and Puerto Rico." Not the answer I received on the phone from Sony last night. Suddenly their deal does not sound so good...
