I got a new VAIO 3 days ago and last night was surfing the web but was getting irratted by a mosquito, So i ran to the kitchen and armed myself with some mosquito repellant and sprayed it (not directly on my laptop), At the time there was no fluid on the casing that i could see, But today i woke up to find the casing of my laptop covered in horrible white stains,Ive tried using warm soapy water with a toothbrush to get it out to no avail,Usually im not fussed about small stains but there all over the casing and stand out like a sore thumb, Does anyone know anything else i could try to remove them?, I was thinking of using some nail polish remover but was scared the acetone might take the paint off and make it worse, Any suggestions guys

That sounds like a baked-in stain in the plastic, possibly altering the chemical make-up of the plastic itself (thus causing the time-delayed stain), so I'm going to guess no. :(

bug solutions like RAID and others are quite agressive, so they might damage plastic in prolonged contact. Usually it's not plastic that is damaged but thin layer they apply over plastic (lacque). What also could be is that those white stains/traces are pretty stubborn, maybe you try using some very mild soap/ shampoo with warm (but not too wet) microfiber cloth to remove it.

Yes, WHICH KIND OF ERASER WAS IT?! That would be good to know.

But congrats on having it work out for you though.... That would be very sad if it didn't. D:

Maybe the "Magic Eraser". They are the best invention since Windex Wipes. ;)

Which means you effectively just buffed off a thin layer of the surface of the laptop coating. That's all the eraser is going to do. Lucky for you the stain hadn't penetrated too far. My only concern now is was there any sort of protective layer that you have now removed and might want to try to restore. If as someone else suggested, there was a clear lacquer on the laptop, it is most likely now gone. But if that is the case you might very well be able to put one back on. But if you attempt that you really ought to take the case apart and then apply the clear coat. The last thing you want is some of that on the circuit board or other components.

^^^I think youre right as i noticed the texture of the plastic had changed a little (feels more colder  ) but hey atleast the stains gone, btw i used a normal white eraser that i swooped from class after reading on the Mac forums about how many of them had used it to remove yellow stains from there lappy's,Dont suppose anyone knows the coating the laptop originally had applied to it to protect it?, It says in the manual that its made with magnesium alloy but is quite clearly not.
