Hey guys i m writing from turkey and i have got a sony vaio vpcz12z9e/.i bought it 9 months ago and i started to use it 5 months ago but some stains are formed on palmrest. So i took it to a sony repair service department in turkey but they demanded 350 dollars for a new palmrest. Laptop still is covered under warranty but the guys at repair department said that these stains are the issue of costumer so they said me to pay.but i know that some of you guys replaced the palmrest under warranty without paying anything. So is this a special problem for z series ? is this problem under warranty by sony ? Please help me !

It's up to the company. It's essentially wear. But $350 is ridiculous! I got mines replaced under warranty (I didnt expect it to since, it's technically wear and tear...) Call in again and say that it's abnormal and extremely worn out and that a $2000+ machine should not show this much wear in the amount of time. Be angry! Don't let yourself get pushed over, but don't shout just sound a little mad/irritated. If all else fails, call again. Different reps may do things differently (at least here in the USA).

edit: Oh you brought it into Sony. Why not call into customer support? as for "special problem for the Z series"... well alot of us noticed that it happens quite quickly... state what you jsut said that you only used it 5 months and it's abnormal wear... that there's a defect with their product(the paint job) that's causing it to wear out faster than acceptable

but if there is a defect with product we are in the right. i think also you have to reconsider what to do. before this vaio i was using acer , i bought it 5 years ago and also some stains are formed on palmrest of acer but you can see it if you really want to see, when you put in comparison it with vaios stains they are really nothing and they are formed in 5 years not in 5 months.now in turkey i cant find some one really authorized by sony to tell my problem.where do you live? i only talk to secreteries of costumer support and they tell me a story which memorized by them.because of this i sent an e-mail to turkish support of sony and the guy said me that he showed the pics of my laptop to his supervisor but also he thinks that that is my fault.so i understood that it is not possible to resolve it with turkish costumer support and i sent an e-mail to english costumer support.
i got another question Achusaysblessyou: what about if i send my product to a service department of sony which replace palmrest underwarranty like your in USA ?

I wouldn't send it in unless they agree to fix it. If you can, see if you can buy the part for cheaper

What color do you have? I've only heard of the black being affected. I would make that call, as someone suggested, to Sony Support and have them approve the fix under your warranty.
