It switches from integrated graphics to the nvidia GPU. Additionally, it can also activate different power plans.

Yea that's pretty much it. There's no such thing as a CPU speed boost when using the switch.

However, the button also helps you to remember the power plan you're using when you fiddle around with the switch. For example, if you set your power plan to "power saver" when you're using the "stamina" switch, then the next time you switch it to "stamina" again the system will switch to "power saver" automatically. Quite a nice feature that saves a few clicks.

EDIT: Lol nvm Beaups covered it for me :)

I should add that the Intel graphics (on the VGN-Z at least) is ALWAYS on regardless of switch setting. When on SPEED however, the nVidia takes priority and is the graphics that's used.

You can confirm it for yourself by dropping by DEVICE MANAGER, or even use GPU-Z which will show you a drop-down menu when on SPEED (to choose between the Intel and nVidia). Though it's apparent from GPU-Z that although the Intel card is active in SPEED, it is completely ignored and specs for it come out funky (like -ve memory for example).
