My computer (sz450) crashed while in hibernate mode and when I rebooted, I could not reboot into speed mode. I figured it was a software problem, so I reloaded sony power mangager from the sony site without improvement.
I then reloaded a backup from about 2 months ago, and still no improvement. Must be a hardware issue.
Any suggestions. Am I stuck running just the onboard video card?
As per my other posts, the sound driver does not seem to work in stamina mode until driver disabled and enabled each boot.
Seems like my computer is not going into hybernate mode when I close the lid and start when I open the lid as well.........even though it is set to do so.
Any suggestions?

Ehm - so what exactly happened?
Your laptop crashed while hibernating in Stamina mode?
You rebooted in Speed mode?
And your "backup" - is that a system restore which as far as I'm aware messes everything up on an SZ or was it a back up disc created through the Sony utility? -
I generally run my computer in speed mode. Opened lid after it had been shut down in hibernate mode and it had an error message suggesting that there was a fatal error while in hibernate mode.
After a reboot, the computer will not come out of "stamina" mode. (and by the way, my stamina mode has had a problem with the sound drivers so I would really like to get back to speed mode).
I figured it must be related to a software corruption or error that occurred due to the crash so I restored my last available Norton ghost backup from 2 months ago. Had I been smart, I would have backed up my current computer first, but I assumed it was corrupted.
Unfortunately my restore worked but still with no ability to get to speed mode. Turning the switch no longer gives me a prompt to reboot to speed mode, and the light always seems to be on the stamina side.
Also, hibernate mode no longer seems to work, nor does my computer restart when I open the lid, all things that worked fine before.
Any thoughts? -
InfyMcGirk while(!(succeed=try()));
Have you tried a system restore (i.e. back to factory settings - not just a previous backup of yours)? Worth a shot as if you've still got the problem then, it would suggest it's a hardware problem.

Re-download both Sony video drivers and reinstall both. They need to be Sony-issued packages. Have the machine booted freshly in to stamina for the intel package, reboot freshly into speed for the nvidia. This should fix it. If it doesn't, try this:
1. Install Sony Shared Library (reboot)
2. Install Sony Utilities (reboot) -
since I am unable to enter speed mode, it will not allow me to load the nvidia drivers since it tells me that no nvidia drivers are needed. any thoughts?
Stamina-Speed switch no longer works
