I've had this problem happen to me twice since I bought my SZ (2 wks old). When charging my laptop and I close the lid, go away for a bit then come back, I find that when I re-open the lid my LCD has a static scrambled display

The 1st time round I jst held down the power button to shut off comp. (thought it was a random error) ... but its jst happened to me again and I noticed that the laptop was still functioning (I could even send it to hibernate) but with the static scrambled display - in the end I had to shut off manually!!

    Anybody got any suggestions/ideas? :frown:

What's up with those smileys mate???!!!???!?!?!??

Yeh just check that there's nothing pointy sticking up for when you close the lid. If there is take it off and the problem shoudl be resolved.

The LCD should also be slightly receeded into the lid.

If the problem persists its probably a manufactuter problem and these are really hard and expensive to fix so your better off sending it back on the guarantee and asking for a new one.

    Hope this helped!

I think it is a BIOS or graphics driver problem. Does it only happen after the computer has been sleeping?

Check if there is any newer BIOS or graphics driver (for the GPU you are using).

I have a gateway and this happened to me yesterday. I was doing something and I closed the lid a little further then I wanted to. I did two things, one is go to power and change close lid=do nothing and then I updated my ATI card. Don't have the problem now. I would say that you should use the start>sleep in the windows interface or your sleep hotkey to do what you are doing and not go into sleep mode by closing the lid. The reason I say this is using a command or button is an automatic process, no gaps or mistakes. For me when I close the lid I might push down slower or faster each time and I think this is what is causing the problem. Consistency(button) vs. Inconsistency(lid). Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep an eye on it for now!

I usually don't put my laptop to sleep but oh ya, I remember now, it was when I was running defrag (the 1st time round), shut the lid of my computer - [action on lid close = do nothing] then went away for a few hrs (with ac plugged in).

yup, did this straight after the 1st time it happened ... thought it would help ... but  (s'cuse the smiley mattireland :D)

Ya I'm kinda anal this way too ... so I try not to slam down the lid but lower it gently ... and then not open it too fast and/or open and close quickly at the same time.

appreciate the suggestions so far tho. :)
