    Hi,
    I have Sony Vaio i5 VPCCW27FX Windows 7.
I need to enable the stereo mix on it so I can record sounds.
The Stereo mix option is not enable under the recording devices nor when I click on show disabled devices. the driver is updated but yet no luck.
    anyone has the solution?
    thanks

Welcome to the wonderful world of Digital Rights Management. You will find this is true of most machines these days, to "prevent piracy". But there are ways around the issue, once such item is Audacity. A nice audio package that includes the ability to capture the very thing you want.

Sorry, I was thinking about another app. I'll have to dig around and find it again. It was able to capture the audio stream WITHOUT the need for the stereo mix being enabled.

What sound card do you have in this machine? Is it a sigmatel or realtek? There are non-sony drivers around for both of these that apparently enable the stereo mix. You might want to pursue that.

Try this, but read the installation guide first, its simple, straight forward and does the job perfectly fine.

    Total Recorder

get the latest stable version, its a Shareware though!

If you go into your recording devices and right-click to show hidden devices, what does that enable?

Then you might have some luck with a non-sony driver directly from Realtek. Do a quick Google search and you will see lots of folks who have used the drivers from them to get around this issue. In all such cases the OEM driver from the laptop manufacturer had it disabled.

Also Total Recorder was the software I was trying to remember when I said Audacity. The note from another post above jogged my memory. (Sometimes that takes a two by four.)

Try these. The NVIDIA HD Audio is the audio over HDMI provided by your graphics card.
