So I was volunteering at a homeless shelter in the city, and my laptop along with my amazon kindle, and lots of other electronics were stolen from the trunk of my car. The laptop was a sony vaio TZ170N with a 32GB ssd upgrade (see my signature). I doubt there is any way to recover it with the software but if anyone knows anything on how to get it back, that'd be awesome. Laptop can be replaced but the research data from my lab work is gonna suck to replace. It may be time for my to fill out a new laptop survey form...

It would help others if you could state where you live.

It couldn't hurt to post the info on your local craigslist too.

Sorry to hear that. Sucks that you were donating your time and your stuff gets stolen in the meantime. That dude has some bad karma coming his way!

Sorry to hear about it, but I hope you made backups along the way. Easy way to get data back even if it's not everything.

Put up a flier and beg the thief to return the data on a CD and drop it off incognito to where you had your notebook stolen.

Have you reported the incident to the police?

    cheers ...

Police report filed but doubt it will lead to anything. I have also been calling local pawn shops and second hand laptop stores. They also got my Kindle, noise canceling headphones, a TI-85, and my external drive. Not to mention another bag with my Jordan shoes in there.

s...How they can live after stealing? Good luck to you on recovery. Hope, insurance will pay off the material part of the loss.

Heh, I would venture to guess that cretins who steal other people's property rarely lose any sleep over it. They probably went home thrilled, they scored a killer take with Bejand's things. I had an $8k item stolen from me once, it's a horrible feeling.

    Good luck to Bejand.

I am quite sure that it was crackheads who stole the stuff, had no idea what it was and just sold it for a fraction of what it was worth to get high for the night.

Bad news is that I have no leads on my stolen laptop. Good news is that I just picked up a VAIO TT190NJB with SU9300, 3GB ram, and 128gb SSD new on ebay for $1500. I guess it was time to upgrade. Thanks for all the support.
