hi all ,
you know that all new vaio models come with Toshiba HDD (( i don't know about Z and TT if you can tell us )) ??
and the strange thing here that all new toshiba laptops come with Fuji HDD ??
so , why Toshiba don't use their product in their laptops ?? i don't understand why they have to buy HDDs from another company if they already produce it ??
any explaining will be appreciate !!
and i read in the web that the HDD drive that came with my laptop(SR) is so cheap compare to other brand at same spec. !! and when i went to toshiba site I noticed that my HDD Durability is 5 Years , what that's mean ?? is that mean it's not hight quality product or what
Regards ,

Many manufacturers buy a mix of different standard parts from each other; some buy LG screens, Toshiba HDs (which have a significant portion of the mobile HD market), Sony-made batteries, Matsua (Panasonic) optical drives, etc. The reasoning is that it isn't practical for manufacturers to make all the parts, including ones that are built to specified standards.

Another possible thing is that even the HDD manufacturing are outsourced. They will be made by just a few companies & at the end of the day, will be slapped on with the respective brand labels (Fujitsu, Toshiba, etc.) as per their signed contact.

My SR came with a Hitachi 320gb. (Hitachi HTS543232L9SA00).

my SZ came with Seagate Momentus drive.

My Z will be here Wed. I'll report back. I only hope I didn't get a crappy drive, whatever brand it is. :/

Marketing. No matter what kind of company it is... It has a main priority and it is to get more profit. Simple as that.

toshiba here, working great
about your question, maybe they helps each other. well, japanese love their own product anyway. doesnt matter. -
hitachi is the best , fujitsu is the lagger among laptop hd makers, its acutally a desktop hd producer.

In most megacorps, they are divided into business units, with each one responsible to turn a profit on their own. So, the PC unit of Toshiba has to source the best/cheapest components for its laptops, including HDDs.
Similarly, the HDD unit of Toshiba has to price their stuff accordingly... the PC unit of Toshiba is just another client for them and so they may or may not get any price breaks (since they need to turn a profit).
Strange Thing !!
