Ive been using a 40 inch HDTV ever since I received my Z about a month ago. I had to move recently, and now when i attempt to use the display it looks very strange, almost as if someone turned the digital vibrance or contrast setting up all the way. The text looks strange, and it is overall unpleasant to look at. I checked all of the settings and everything is the same as before, and tried varying the resolution and color settings. I can't figure it out!

I can take a picture if that would help explain better. I also checked the TV's settings and I do not believe that is the issue.

I also tried reinstalling the NVIDIA drivers from sonys website to no avail.

    Thanks.

Here is a photo I took, which really doesn't do justice to the issue. Notice how all of the text looks like it's glowing and slightly blurry. This isn't from the camera, it is actually how it looks on the screen. Its really annoying.

    Thanks.

I used my new vaio Z11 on an 46" HDTV TV and it looked crystal sharp on the LCD's default settings, but on my other 32" Samsung HDTV I had to do a lot adjustment from within the TV Itself until I got the perfect settings.

I think the output quality varies from TV to TV.

yah I tried hooking my Z1 through HDMI to 40" LCD and 22" Samsung LCD. The screen looks a bit blurry. I tried many settings, 720p, 768, 1080p, it just doesn't look good.

    have you tried:
    - adjusting the "overscan" in your video driver control panel?
    - making sure your displaying the correct native resolution that tv runs at 1920x?
    - turning off the laptop display and only running external (Fn+f7?)

Do you mean Vaio Z11 or Z12? The Z1 doesn't have a HDMI port.

Mine is a Z12 and says VPCZ1 under the screen.

Are you getting audio AND video output through HDMI? I can only get video or audio, but not both at the same time. :(

I can get both, after adjusting settings.

Yeah, this definitely seems like an issue with the TV configuration.

You probably need to set the scene/mode to "Graphics" or something for displaying PC content.

the Z1X has HDMI. i'll try again, its probably the TV not doing 1:1 pixel mapping or the overscan i've been reading about.

i get both video and audio output to the TV, its just that i see the windows screen cut off top and bottom with blurry text.

It's the TV. Samsung sets have a 1:1 setting...I think it's called "just scan" or something like that. Some TV's you cannot get 1:1 mapping.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but I had a quick question with regards to hdmi and the z. If I connect the Z to an external monitor via hdmi and allow for the duplicate screen, is it possible have the external monitor at its native resolution (1920x1080) and the Z at its native resolution (1600x900) at the same time? Whenever I connect the external monitor and set to duplicate screens, the external defaults to 1600x900. I've gone into the hdmi resolution setting but it won't let me adjust. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Since it's duplication, I'm going to say both the screens have to have the same resolution. For what you need, you can pick "Extend" or "Projector Only" (upon pressing Fn-F7). See if that works...
