Well this probably will seem a daft and stupid question and probably asked numerous times but ill fire away :p

I’m starting to use my FZ laptop connected to my external 22' Samsung TFT while I’m doing this the laptop lid is fully closed I leave the laptop on for days at a time my question is would this do any damage to the screen and laptop? Something I stumbled across is keys being imprinted into the screen? that seems extreme but does it happen?

    Thanks :)

if your lcd does show the same picture for some hours / days, the image can get "burned" into the lcd. the pixels will get stuck and show the image it displayed for some hours..

to prevent that you make sure that a screensaver is running or the lcd is switched off.

The keys being imprinted on the screen thing only happens if the laptop is designed so that the keys touch the screen when closed...I think they've pretty much stopped making them that way by now. The only possible concern I could see is heat causing warping. I managed to make a bit of a gap between the front bezel and back bezel on the left side of my screen by running CPU-intensive stuff with the lid closed - all the hot air leaves the left side of my laptop and caused a bit of warping. But it didn't actually affect the screen at all. Other than that possibility, you ought to be fine. And depending on fan placement on the FZ, that might not even be a concern.

On most all operating systems, including XP and Vista, closing the lid turns off the screen. The only time it might not is when the operating system is frozen - even then the BIOS might detect the screen closing and turn it off.
