I bought this laptop last summer as a gaming laptop, and for the first couple of months it worked flawlessly. Then all of the sudden one night my games started to stutter every few seconds, both the graphics and audio, in both online and offline games. It seems as though the game continues to run in the background, but my video and audio both stutter for a second or two and then snap back into where I would normally be looking on the screen. The most demanding game I play is Half Life 2 and as I mentioned all games worked perfectly until one night where I began to experience the stuttering in all my games. So far I have tried:

    • Reinstalling Windows
    • Updating display, audio, and BIOS drivers
    • Technician came and replaced the motherboard, memory stick, fan, and disk drive

I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 with 6gb RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 330M graphics card which is way more than enough to run Half Life 2 effectively, despite the fact that the last SONY tech I spoke to tried to tell me that the games simply weren't compatible with my laptop, probably just so they can avoid replacing the whole laptop even though its under warranty. Any suggestions would be greatly, greatly, appreciated!

What power plan are you on? High Performance would be recommended.

Stuttering every few seconds is almost always caused by an incorrect thermal strategy setting. In vail control center, make sure thermal strategy is NOT set to silent.
