    Hi.

Not sure if you read my other thread under the OS section but my SZ and Vista is playing up and I don't have a clue what's causing it.

I'm using my laptop normally and every 10mins or so, the processor would shoot up to 100% and causing my entire system to slow down and stuttering sounds when I'm playing my music through Windows Media Player. Then it'll revert back to 5% or so normally.

It's seriously damn annoying and I don't know what's causing it.

I've got the following opened at the moment:
    • Windows Media Player
    • Word Document
    • Another Word Document
    • Firefox with 2 tabs
    • MSN Convo x 1
    • On Stamina (plugged in)

but it happens constantly, whether plugged in or not or whatever program I'm using. Memory load is at a constant 59% - ridicolous high! I already have 2Gb of RAM installed.

Happening right now!!! The stuttering. :( :(

Imagine what it'll be like with my Flash8, Dreamweaver, PhotoshopCS2 opened which I can do without trouble under XP.

    Please help. Thanks.

what processes are you running? could you provide us with a screenshot to see if there's anything running in the background you may not need?

    Many thanks.

Could you take a look at my installed program files as well to see what other crappy Sony pre-installed stuff I can get rid off?

This is what it looks like...

then goes back to the normal state. That is with all those tasks running, not that I know what most of them are.

Happened again, caught it this time.

Go to task manager and then performance tab>resource monitor, and click on the rectangular header labeled "CPU" and sort by CPU in descending order. Your problem should be on top of the list. Do this when your CPU is full blast at 100%.

Your issue about constant 59% usage of memory: remember that unused memory is wasted memory. I think Vista used some of those RAM for indexing purposes (ie. for quick results in the search field on your start menu). Vista aero is also the cause of your 59% memory usage.

Mate, i think its just windows media player, i have exactly the same config as you, 2gig, windows business, and this only happens whenever a song changes. try this:

    Goto Control Panel
    Select Hardware and Sound
    Select Sound
    Double Click Speakers/Headphones
    Select the effects tab
Place a check mark in the "disable system effects"
    Click apply

now try playing a mp3 again.

@jsis - thanks for the idea. Why didn't I think of that before!! Such a good idea. I'll try that out soon while playing music.

@ayakabob - I'll try that method also but I don't think its that cause it happens (slows down) when i don't have media player open as well cause I see my cursor slowing right down.

So would using lots of RAM be eating more battery time? I've got my indexing set to default, start menu and user folders only. My indexing cycle has been completed as well, so its not doing that anymore.

    Actually!

I can't find the Hardware and Sound menu - I can only see a 'Sound' option but can't find the System Effects bit?

Check to see if you have Toshiba Bluetooth stack installed. If you do, uninstall, and just go with the Microsoft drivers...
