Hey there. I'm new to the forum. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SR290 and I've been happy with it for the most part. Had it for about three years. I had to recently erase my entire drive because of a virus that was going around. So now that I'm starting over I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions to what protective software would be good to look into. I had Malwarebytes, but that isn't a anti-virus software as far as I know. So if you folks have any recommendations as to what I should look into as far as anti-virus software or anything like that I'd really appreciate it. Or if you'd also just like to throw some generic software programs you'd like to use out there I'd be willing to listen. Thanks.

^ i use Microsoft Security Essentials along with Windows Firewall (that comes with Windows 7); worked pretty fine for me up to now.

Yeah I'll definitely look into Windows Security Essentials. Thanks for the suggestion.

I second MSE, as will a fair amount of people here on these boards (never the day i'd thought i'd actually recommend MS software...)

I used to run MSE which worked fine, until my ISP started offering Norton Internet Security for free so I use that now. I've disliked norton in the past due to heavy resource usage, but this norton is pretty awesome and has even found a few things MSE didn't. This is of course for the times when I actually have to boot into windows to do something. Normally I'm booting linux on my SR. :)
