I have tried two different discs now. Both of them will not play using Intervideo WinDVD BD for Vaio. After talking to three different service reps from Sony (one being a level 2) All of them said it is due to the Blu-ray Java features of the disc. They said that a firmware update would be available in a few days (this was a month ago now, still no update).

After being frustrated, I decided to look for another program that would play Blu-ray discs, against Sony's recommendation to wait. I did find one, "Arcsoft Total Media Theatre." However, it is not free (89 dollars to buy) and it still does not play the Blu-ray very well. During some scenes, the directors commentary comes in over the audo, even though on the menu it says that it is off. Also, the picture doesn't seem to be as sharp.

When I play it on the WinDVD, the program just stops responding--which I have noticed is a very touchy program...it usually crashes if I am doing ANYTHING while a Blu-ray disc is loading.

Anyone else having these problems? Any ideas for solutions? Thanks

Which WinDVD BD do you have? To find out which one you have, run WinDVD, right click on WinDVD logo, click Setup..., click Information tab.
You should have WinDVD BD version 8.08.425 or later. The latest version is supposed to be compatible with BD-J disc.

Thanks for the replies ;) I do have the latest version of winDVD. The gimmick with that is that the Sony update site says "...to improve compatibility with discs that include BD-J (Blu-ray Disc Java) interactive features." The unfortunate thing with that is that this must be outside of that scope.

I did manage to get a version of PowerDVD--WAY better by the way...doesn't crash like winDVD does all the time. Also, Sunshine works with it. I think part of the problem with Sunshine is that it doesn't support the mouse for going through the menu. Thanks for the help--I wonder why Sony doesn't just use PowerDVD instead?

Thank the good lord somebody else had the same experience that I've been having - I was starting to think that I was the only person with the same kind of problems that you have mentioned with 'Sunshine' and 'Resident Evil 3: Extinction' (both are profile 1.1 Blu-ray discs which are somehow incompatible with the present version of WinDVD). I called up Sony tech support with no help from them (they had absolutely no clue to what I was talking about). Anyways, I wanted to find out where you got your PowerDVD? ( I am so..o.. tired of WinDVD and I am hoping to find some site that will allow me to get the software for free). Thnax
