    Check this out.

Just been charging it while using and unplugged it when it reached 100% and look at this!

But now with Firefox open, 3 tabs, mute, 4/8 brightness on wi-fi with battery saving mode, on Stamina, at 96% = 4:30hrs! Quite good isn't it? Surely that should be accurate if I continue under this light usage? Still - not really up to 5 hrs as Sony claims though - unless you just left it on idle perhaps?

Actually just notice something - it dropped from 100% to 99% like in 10 seconds! Is that an indication of wear??

Update - it's been 16 mins since last update and just quick check:

    14:59 - 99% - 4:30hrs remaining.
    15:15 - 89% - 4:29hrs remaining. On for 0:16hrs. What??
    16:43 - 62% - 3:02hrs remaining. On for 1:44hrs. With Firefox (3tabs), folder and PowerPoint open.
    16:54 - 57% - 2:44hrs remaining. On for 1:55hrs. Firefox still open.

Have to terminate my log for now cause I have to work. I'll try again sometime to see how long this battery can actually last under normal/daily usage.

pwar! thats an awsome battery there lol.

dont let sony hear about this or they'll up their already stretched claim of 6 hrs battery life!

Anyone know if they still say that for the SZ w/ vista?

They sure still do say that for Vista, cause I'm on a SZ4MN/b with Vista Business pre-installed and on the website and the sticker right in front of states...

"Extended battery life of up to 5 hours with Stamina Mode"

Sounds about right, I get over 4hrs of battery life with the regular battery if I use stamina mode in Vista Home Prem.

I have the extended battery for my TXN and it's been on for 3 hours and has about 8 hours left. So that's about 11 hours of life. =)

Too bad it looks ridiculous with the super size battery.

OMG! 11hrs!? But that model spec is different to SZ isn't it? Lower voltage?

4 hours!? I wish I was that lucky! Is there a guide somewhere on how to optimise battery life on the SZ? Some info on what software that comes preinstalled that I can safely remove would also be useful. I'm sure there's a shedload of stuff running in the background that's draining my battery.

    What have you got? SZ?

Why lucky? I'm sure its doable with your model if we're talking about the SZ, needs some "optimisation" though. ;)

I have the SZ3VWP/X. I'm sure I need some optimisation to maximise battery. Something is draning it big time...

Yes it is a TX series laptop. They have an 11" screen and only a 1.2Ghz Core Solo processor, so quite a step down for your core 2 duo's and such, but it's perfect for me.

There are a lot of things you can remove. I always uninstall the stuff I don't need, like most of the VAIO entertainment items. If you are curious about what processes you have running and if you can get rid of them, just run Hijack this and browse through it. If you don't now what it is, just google it and you can find out pretty easily.

The biggest thing in getting best life to decreasing the lcd brightness. I'm not sure what they have in the SZ, but there should be the VAIO optimization in the power options which shows you as you change the settings there is a graph/pie thing that shows what it does in terms of performance and battery life. For my TXN, I leave the lcd brightness at 3, but they are bright to begin with so it's perfect, on my old T, I couldn't use it under 4.

me too.. my FE shows over 4h of battery life after a full charge under vista. it sometimes even jumped up to 5h. but i doubt you can really get that much hours out from it. so i'd say you can't really base on those hours for how much time u can work on your laptop running on batteries

    hello

I did use to get 4:30hrs, but I just re-installed my Vista and it says it's got about "3:30hrs remaining"...
