I keep my laptop connected to external monitor and turned on 24/7 in the room where I sleep. But at night, when the room is dark and I'm ready to sleep, I have the power button of the FW emitting this fairly bright green light and it bothers me.

Is there any utility to turn this off?

    Thanks,

Nope. I'd love to get it disabled on my Z too, because it's distracting when watching DVDs.

Worse, IMO, is the slowly blinking orange light when Vaios are in sleep state. Seen from another room, one might think there's a fire. I have to toss clothes over the corner of my laptop or I can't go to sleep in the same OR next room.

    I do the same.

I was hoping some hacker came up with a small .exe file that will switch off this light once and for all.
