I have an SZ right now that I am really happy with. I have had zero issues and love this thing.

I was in the sony style store though and came across the other SZ, the carbon one. I really like the back of the screen and the palm rest better, it's also slightly thinner.

I want to buy one, but don't want to have to restore everything. How feasible is it to pick one up off of ebay and swap my current hard drive into the new vaio carbon one? Is it just a direct swap, and if so, will it basically be like I have my old computer in a new body by just swapping hard drives?

    Thanks.

I assume you got the SZ6xx series.

I " THINK" the SZ6xx shared the same drivers for regular and carbon version.

If you have lots of application and files installed, you are better off cloning your hard drive with software like True Image. I use True Image 11 and it works fine for me!

    Hope that helps.

P.S If you crack open your SZ and swap the HDD, the warranty is VOID.

Why don't you just transfer all your data? It might take a while longer, however you will still have your new SZ's warranty intact.
