I attempted to install the new Synaptics drivers on my SR, the one with ChiralMotion. They appeared to install just fine, but after I rebooted, the "Device Settings" tab in the mouse driver didn't appear. I've tried manually running the software, tried uninstalling and reinstalling, tried older drivers including the one from the Sony website...the touchpad works just fine, but I can't do anything special with it. No scroll areas, tap zones, etc. I just want the control panel back, I don't care which driver version it is anymore.

anyone have any advice? I was dumb and didn't create a restore point, and I'm not interested in doing a Windows reinstall just for this.

    Thanks!

Here's the latest driver (w/o ChiralMotion or whatever)
    http://drivers.synaptics.com/Synaptics_Driver_v10_1_8_Vista32.exe
It should give you all the special features back
    hope it helps :)

Tony, thanks, I tried reinstalling that, I've tried uninstalling then installing, i've tried rebooting a bunch of times between uninstall and reinstall, nothing seems to work. I've got it at a point where the touchpad works and the horizontal scroll zone works, so I'm tempted to just stop messing with it. The control panel still doesn't display the Device Settings tab. Frustrating, but hardly a serious issue in the end.

LESSON TO SELF: Vista has restore points. Use them :)

i disabled system restore to make my laptop faster, more battery efficient, and save hdd space :p
windows' system restore is kinda useless in my opinion... i never liked it
