    Hi,

Just got my SZ55 last month and now the new SZ75 is out with better processor and HDD, with the SAME price tag (i am bit pissed off)

Anyway, I like to know if I can change the CPU in my SZ55?
Is there a guide somewhere to show you how?

My CPU is T7100 Santa Rosa.
What socket type is this? Does anyone know.

I like to install a T9300, is this possible?
What is the best CPU I can install? Will my system support a X7800 or X9000?

What about the TDP. Will installing a higher CPU increase the heat and power consumption(lower battery life)?

I thought the newer 45nm CPU is meant to decrease the power consumption, is this true?

    Thanks,
    sorry for so many questions.

Thats technology for you! The best way is to make sure you research to see if there is new technology coming along soon. So if you want to buy a notebook now, get it if you need it, or wait until Centrino 2 is launched mid year.

    Yes you can...

There are plenty of threads regarding this, please use the search function. If IIRC, you can access it easily from the bottom of the notebook.

    Socket P

Yes, provided that the BIOS can support it.

Im not exactly upto date with the CPUs, but if you have the same cpu clock speed of the current ones vs the previous ones, online reports have shown better performance and improved battery life due to lower TDP. I have the previous generation CPU, which is the T7500, the current ones are T8xxx and T9xxx I think.

Thanks so much for your reply, its very useful info.

    A few more things.

How do i find out about whether the Bios would support it?
and what about the X7800 or X9000, the extreme versions?

Do it mean that the higher the clock speed the more power it consume?

    Thanks again.

Hi I am using SZ55 tried both with R0082S5 and R0101S5 Bios it did not support the CPU.

Unless SONY release a specific Bios to support the CPU you and I are out of Luck.

Sony release a new Bios today. 13-April-2008 (Sunday)
    Version R0122S5
Very unusual that someone release something like a Bios update on a Sunday.

The force told me there is an update over there so in the early morning I went into Sony's site and obtained the Bios.

Updated my SZ55GN to the R0122S5 and pop in a T9500.
The machine just boot up and fly, No more BSOD just before windows logon.

Really make my Sunday a sunny day.
