    Hello everybody,

I'm shopping for a laptop and would appreciate your input on this question. I seem to be leaning towards the Sony SZ models, and after visiting SonyStyle.com I figured if I was to get the SZ it would definitely have to be the premium model.

At first I thought buying it direct from Sony would be the best choice, I was thinking about customizing a 680, but then I found that several other websites are selling the SZ650N/C (having the same features that I was going to place in the 680) at really competitive prices.

So is there a difference between the SZ650 and the SZ680 aside from the latter being costumizable and the former pre-configured? Are they both premium? Do they both come with Carbon fiber and LED backlit screen?

Side Question: if any of you guys would humor me, that little antenna that's displayed in most of the SZ pictures out there is only for WWAN right? Because I'm defnitely not interested in WWAN and that little thing is very annoying :)

Last question: Do you guys know of any advantage to ordering directly from SonyStyle over other websites that show the same product brand new and sealed for significantly less?

^i think the main advantage is that you can have "sony-installed" upgrades on the 680

btw, it seems no one on this forum has a digital camera as very few users post good pics of their new 680s and 650s.

But the 650 comes pre-configured with all of those upgrades (at least the ones I would have put in the 680), and I'm assuming they're all Sony installed :)

I have the 650 and as far as I'm aware the only difference is the 670/680/691 models have slightly faster processors and slightly bigger hard drives.

The 650 I have has Wi-fi and no stupid attenna thing.

Theres one little thing I've thought of that hasn't been mentioned ( I think ) the LED backlit VS LCD WSXGA screen. the LED is better from what I've heard also saves on battery life. I think thats one of the reasons for the battery life variation! if you look theres one with a 3-6 hour battery life and theres another with a ( I think 4 -8 )

double check me if you want!

That might be because a vaio is so expensive it makes them too poor to afford a camera. ^^

Yes, it is true that the LED LCD is quite a bit better than the normal LCD, however all SZ650 and higher have the LED and it is not an option you can cahnge. Only the SZ640's have the normal LCD as well as having the alloy casing instead of the carbon fiber.

and as a side note, I know this is an old post, however for myself, the best part of getting a 680 over the pre-config models is .... extra large (high capacity) lithium ion battery. But of course you have to be willing to take the extra weight and the extension to the rear of the notebook.

Yeah I was sure both had the LED back-lit screen.

But anyway, I ended up buying the SZ650, got here yesterday, and I absolutely love it! :)
